Downloads and throttling
This might be the wrong thread because I looked at them for exactly 2 seconds.

If its not, does anybody know how to fix Steams random weird throttling of downloads? For me it seems to be entirely in the Steam client, as any downloads I do outside of the client are total normal.

Example, according to Speedtest I have 1.2 Gbps (Gb, not GB, since apparently thats different)
Currently my firewall is off, I'm in the lowest download traffic region on steam, steam downloads are uncapped, my VPN is off and I have NO other programs running that take network, Steam currently has 32%, the next highest is at 0.9%. I have restarted my desktop, cleared my download cache, and done everything that 16 different websites have told me to do, my current download is still sitting at 14 hours until complete, bouncing between fully stopped, 3 Mbps, and up to 700 Mbps. There are no other downloads pending either. This randomly happens once every two weeks or so and basically grinds the client to a total halt for me until it, for absolutely no reason at all, just decides to stop having an issue.

Thanks

I thin ,ay have misunderstood somethings, so I'll run through all I can quickly.

For a start I don't know what you mean by "lowest download traffoc region" as there isn't really such a thing. It might be you're just saying things a bit weirdly.

It ain't like online gaming, as it's a onw way download so ping ain't relevant. Many people think it is and therefore you need to get a server close to you. You do not - quite the contrary - you can choose anywhere on the other side of the world. During sale periods I google where in the world is currently about 2 to 4 am, and pick any of those coutnries.

But on top of this downloads here aren't like other services. Because downloads are both encrypted and compressed it isn't just down to your net speed. It's down to your RAM, CPU, hard drive, I/O and more.

So if you check the downloads graph on the downloads page and your Task manger you should be able to see where the bottleneck may be.
