I suggested for you to post some new screenshots if you wish, but I can understand your frustration with this. I still suspect something on your machine is affecting the game/Steam, as in problematic software for example.
I would suggest that you uninstall programs that you don't need for gaming. Disabling background applications should work almost all of the time, but there may be one or two out there that can still affect Steam or they have a child process that runs somehow and you think you have disabled the parent, just as an example here.
Hope the best for you and feel free to post back if you get this figured out or need more help. We can try again or we in the community may have other suggestions for you. Good luck.
EDIT..Did you see my post above ?
Can you not just reinstall those later if they are found to not be the issue here ?
It worked fine until there was a steam update that I didn't install. After that steam just prompts: preparing to launch Call Of Duty Black Ops 3. The window closes. It says running but it isn't it doesn't show in the task manager.
After this I installed CS:GO and it worked perfectly. Since then I have updated my graphics driver and reinstalled Steam. Nothing seems to work.
I want to try getting that update if reinstalling didn't get it. Do you know how to do that?

Sorry for any grammar errors. Am from Iceland

Thank you. Verifying the files worked
I disabled antivirus. I rebooted. I did not open my browser or any other programs except control panel and msconfig, which I closed. I closed all windows.
I signed in to steam as an admin. I verified my Viridi local files, I previously added -d3d9 to the Viridi advanced launch options, and checked to make sure it was still there.
I ran Viridi as an admin. The window opened, the logo (a moving geometric figure on a gress background) opened in the window. Then I got the solid black window and the message "Viridi not responding". Same as before I uninstalled everything.
I do get a "not responding" message frequently with other programs, but they soon recover and open. Steam games are the only programs that simply refuse to ever respond. But, As I wrote before, some steam games still play, some don't. Viridi doesn't respond even if I leave it open all night. In the morning it still reads "Viridi not responding". If it's a problem with ram, the devs need to correct the requirements on the store page, which reads:
OS: Windows XP
Processor: 2.0 GHZ (I got more)
Memory: 1 GB RAM (I got enough)
Graphics: Must support shader model 2.0 (mine supports that and more)
DirectX: Version 9.0 ( I have v9, also v11, unsupported; I believe the problem is v9 vs v11)
Storage: 200 MB available space ( I have at least 140 gigs available space)
My system is powerful enough to run second life, (just barely) which is undoubtedly a lot more memory-sucking than Viridi, unless something's serious wrong with Viridi.
Just for kicks, thought I'd try changing the Viridi properties. This time I got an error message, (as reflected in the previously posted output log). Viridi keeps trying to use d3d11 no matter what I do, and d3d11 is NOT supported by my video card, but can't be uninstalled, as far as I have read. It can be disabled, but I do not know how to do that, other than adding it to the advanced launch options which doesn't seem to work.

I unchecked all the boxes on Viridi properties, (locally), and tried -d3d9, -force_d3d9, force_d3d9, -dx9, I think I have them all, correct, I hope; at any rate, I did what I was told (and tried with and without the -), but the result is still the same: Viridi Not Responding.
I ran more than one diagnostic with DirectxDiagnosis, and it shows no problems. As my jpgs prove, I DO have Directx9, other 3d programs work as well as can be expected with my 1g vram, pretty d--- well, all things considered. Only steam games seem to have a problem finding directx on my system. If that's what's going on. Which, from everything I've read and tried during the 4 solid days I've spent screwing around trying to find an answer on the web, seems to be the problem. But I fully admit I could be wrong........
Please, dear God, if anyone can tell me how to disable Directx11 and enable Directx9 in such a way that steam can recognize it, and that doesn't threaten total destruction of my system, please, let me know.
If you think McAfee is hard to kill, (and I admit it is), Steam is 10 times harder to eliminate.
I decided to uninstall, and maybe reinstall Steam, and I'm still not sure I got rid of everything.
I ran the system uninstaller, and it left behind almost everything. I still had the exe. program in my startup menu, many, many program files were left behind on my hard drive, as well as registry entries, so I went after it manually. It's interesting, because it seems, (and I could be wrong about this), that my computer is much faster now that I've dug in every corner for the files left behind. I can definitely say that Chrome is a heck of a lot more responsive now.
Shame, because I had every intention of reinstalling my games. I'm going to miss a couple of them. Now I think I'll wait a while and see if my system really is breathing a sigh of relief, or if I'm only imagining it.
Don't know what went wrong or why. I just realize now that performance hasn't been the same since I decided to install the games, and if this solves the stickiness my computer's been having I can live without the play time.
Mcafee Site Adviser was probably crap, but it did seem like it worked. Ccleaner never caused me a minute's trouble, and I wish I hadn't un-installed it because I thought it was a good product. Now I'm scared to re-download anything.
Let me know what you think, if you feel like it. I do appreciate all the attempts to help resolve this with me.
I have read through your much appreciated and detailed reply above, as well as the rest. This right here, quoted above, hit me in the face when as I was reading. This seems to suggest that you have other issues there, especially since you made the mention of cleaning up your registry and that seems to improved your general performance on that computer.
I suggest you do this...a system file check. See if that does anything and gives any files as repaired when it finishes. However, first we need to confrim something I am confused about. You first said you have Vista. Then later you said you have Windows XP. As far as I know, the sfc commands to check your system files are the same but there may be differences that I don't know about. Excuse me if I missed something in the thread, but it seems that you have mentioned two different operating systems.

Now above you are saying you have Windows XP...
https://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/system_file_checker.mspx?mfr=true
We need to know what your OS is exactly, please, as I am sure you understand that is important.
The only registry entries I got rid of were Valve/Steam.
Now that I recall, my computer started being sluggish after installing Steam.
I tried to uninstall Steam through my control panel, and it said it worked, but it left most of the files behind, so I went through my system and manually got rid of every steam file I could find.
I saved the games in a folder on my desktop, however.
Viridi plays fine (sort of; the black-soil glitch remains), but I no longer have a map to the grove. My computer is running smooth and fast.
It did not run better when I uninstalled the other programs like McAfee and Ccleaner.
It ran better afterI eliminated everything Steam.
The conflict or problem was obviously with my Steam installation.
Maybe the installation got screwed up, I don't know.
I do know that Steam must have been running in the background even when I closed it/exited/disabled it because NOTHING worked right until I got rid of it completely.
My OS is Windows Vista Home Premium copy. 2007 Service Pack 2
Intel Pentium(R) D CPU 2.8 GHz
1gb ram
32 bit operating system
Nividia GeForce 7300/SE 7200/GS, driver version 309.08
Nividia control panel is set-up to allow app to control settings.
DirectX v.9.0 and 11 DirectX diagnostic tools say all is well.
I have 139g available space on my hard drive.
My internet is high-speed and not that great, but it gets me by.
My HP performance base score is 3.0, Gaming experience 3.0
(I know, not great, but, like I said, I can run 3d programs like Second Life and, now, Viridi as a standalone, OK. Better than OK, sometimes.)
I use a variety of graphics programs, nothing too complicated, mostly microsoft and adobe, and they work fine.
Everything's working fine as of right now.
I'd like to reinstall Steam but I'm afraid to.
