The reason for that is because very often, a user has lost access to their actual Steam account and cannot use that anyway, so making a totally seperate account for support makes sense.

Just my opinion but that sounds like an unending flurry of paperwork. I thought this is why AV software has reporting features so false IDs can be identified.

So... Steam Support wrote back and told me what I already knew from you guys - it's supposedly a false positive. I downloaded it again and unsurprisingly virustotal showed the same results. I'm going to wait and do other stuff until the setup is definitely clean.

There is a difference between a false positive and malware.
