Can you still play a game without meeting minimum requirements?
So I want to play Witcher 3 but my laptop is a little under the minimum requirements for it, is it still possible to play or will it not even let me load it. i5 6200u and 940mx 2gb GDDR5 by the way for the specs.

Well that was a fast response, how do you think it will run at 720p on low settings? I don't mind low fps unless it dips to lower than 20 fps

Seriously?
You're asking this question for real?
*sigh* DUde, just go back to consolee gaming. If you can't even grasp the concept of 'minimum requirements' then you are not suited to PC gaming.

Running a game at minimum requirements typically means you'll have to turn all the graphic settings down to the lowest, including resolution. So forget about 720, you'll be lucky if you get 480. Even then you will get lag, slow down and if you knock as much as 30fps you can consider yourself lucky. That's minimum requirements.

If you run under minimum, just as likely the game will not even launch. If you're under the OS reqs good bet it will either crash or just not launch, straight up telling you the application cannot be run.

If it's cpu or ram, the game will maybe load and crash like a mofo in addition to running with the fluidity of a powerpoint presentation. In short, unless the devs were exceedingly generous with their estimations.. you will not run the game at all at bellow minimum specs.

1, I'm not a very big console gamer, 2, I understand that they're MINIMUM requirements, 3, I've seen people run the game with my gpu, I was trying to find out if they had to download it from some other non mainstream online retailers or if steam doesn't let a game even load if it doesn't meet the minimum requirements. btw I probably know more about computers than you so stfu about me not being suited for pc gaming. Also, learn to be nice will ya?

It will dip lower and look like crap doing that.

"Run" the game, or load into it and stand perfectly still in the middle of nowhere with nothing going on in the game ?

Then add in Witcher signs, monsters flying around and Physix taking place and weather and explosions and...well, you get the idea.

"Loading" into the game is not "running" the game. Minimum means just that....minimum.

Steam does not do that.

If you did, you wouldn't be asking this question. So, yeah, don't even bother. If it's the GPU, you might, might be able to squeeze it by so long as the GPU suports the shaders and such user by the game. THough as others have said, it will run like ass.

If it's just a matter of the GPU's ram difference then you can get away since it'll likely just borrow system ram. Still means you'll get slow down .

You might be able to get into the Main Menu of the Game but playing the actual Game is another thing.

Steam does not have any restrictions if your PC is below the minimum System Requirements however if you have a 32bit version of Windows don't even bother to buy or run it cause this Game only supports 64bit version of Windows.

When you get to Novigrad, OP, that computer will probably totally lock up. Dozens of NPC's walking around at any given time and in any given frame there in that city. And that does not even take into account actualy gameplay.

If you just want to get the game because it is on sale, then that is understandable, but you will need a much better computer to run it on. Thanks and good luck to you.
A no-brainer May 31, 2016 @ 10:55am
Steam will only restrict the download if your OS doesn't meet the requirement. In that case it will only load files that are not tied to a certain OS and then stop the download.

Steam does NOT and CAN NOT check if your system meets the requirements otherwise, at least it can't do that at the moment.

If the game after it is downloaded, will install is a different point. Some games do in fact a system check upfront the installing process and some of those might to decide not to continue with the install.

As far as I know, Witcher should install on your machine. Whatever you do, stay under the 2 hours gametime (time you are trying to get it to run will count too), so if it doesn't work out you can get a refund.
