{FIXED} "Download corrupt" error for all Steam games
Yesterday, I updated CS:GO. It progressed 5% and said "Failed to update (download corrupt).Naturally, I tried uninstalling and re installing it. I fixed it by switching the download database and verifying game cache. However, the same issue happened to Team Fortress 2 when I tried re-installing it, only the steps I used to fix CS:GO failed to work. This also happened to the rest of my games. Please help me, any response regarding the issue is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Okay, Steam support sent me a guide that fixed the problem:

Exit Steam entirely.

Browse to your Steam installation (Usually C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\)

Rename the "steamapps" folder to "old_steamapps"

Re-launch Steam and re-install the game.

Once the installation is complete, test the issue.

If this resolves the issue, you may copy the new files into the "old_steamapps" folder and rename it to "steamapps" to restore your other games without re-downloading.

Thing is, with the "download corrupt" error, sometimes there is a root problem that is actually causing them to become corrupt, and you need to find that and fix that before doing further steps, otherwise, it can maybe happen all over again.

Sometimes, this is cause by problematic software on the computer having the error. It can be often blamed on anti-intrusion software such as antivirus, for example. Yes, even if you never had any issues before with the same software.

Start with this list. Check all background processes though.

A good way to test this and one that is simple...

Boot your PC into safe mode with networking. As long as Steam itself has not been damages on your system, if you can download fine in that safe boot using networking, then that almost surely confirms that you have problematic software running on the machine.

Also, check routers and modems, as they can sometimes be the cause of this. In the case of using a router, bypass it and use ethernet only. One more link in the chain of troubleshooting gone that way. See this.....

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
