Virus detected - how to report?
During a game update my antivirus picked up a file as ifected and blocked it. I run GDATA.

Is this normal? Gen.Variant.Strictor seems to be some nasty ♥♥♥♥ but I dont know how to report this kind of thing to steam.

Here is the report:

During Close the file "D:\Games\Steam\steamapps\downloading\219990\SourceServer.exe" the "Gen:Variant.Strictor.98156 (Engine A)" virus was detected. Access denied.

What Antivirus are you running? Could be a false Positive

GDATA. I just updated both the signatures and the software suite to the latest version.

Most likely, it's just a false positive.

Get something better; such as:

Avast
ESET NOD32
Kaspersky
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

I did something real bad, thinking I don't play CS I actuallt deleted the file. And now I can't find any way to redownload it... Deleting the game doesn't help and can't find any way to get Steam to repair itself.

It's detected by BitDefender to, seems like there are a lot of antiviruses reactiong to it.

Go here: http://www.bitdefender.com/submit/
Select the False Positive category.
Click the File button.
Upload the file.
Fill out the rest and then wait and they should fix it.

I wouldn't even trust crap like G-Data, GuardDog, BitDefender.
They are not even popular. Look at what is really good and suggested by IT Experts, and give those a try.

For realtime scanning, Windows Defender + Malwarebytes Anti-Malware would be fine.

If you do not like Defender/Security Essentials, then get a good free AV realtime scanner, such as Avast. ESET or Kaspersky however are top of the line with regards to paid ones. You can get and use free ESET Online AV Scanner; but that is not a free kind that will run in realtime.

Avast, Avira, ESET, Kaspersky, TrendMicro; they are well rounded software and features, and very reliable; and actually do a great job of catching things other miss.

And many overlook other software and try to stick with a single anti-virus. But that alone is never enough; you should have ESET Free AV Scan (which can actually fix issues if found), along with Spybot S&D, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware & Anti-Exploit

But NOD 32, Avast, Kaspersky, TrendMicro, BitDefender....they are all listed here...

and some are in bold and with a green symbol.

"Software to Look For"

"The following applications have been known to cause issues with Steam and playing games:"

In any case; regardless of what you use or prefer; when you are having your game clients doing something; like downloading a game, all your realtime scanners should be exited or paused.
