CS:GO Failed to Connect with Local Steam Client.
So I have had CS:GO for less than a week now and all of a sudden, whenever I try to open the game, i get this message:

FATAL ERROR: Failed to connect with local Steam Client process!
Please make sure that you are running latest version of Steam Client.
You can check for Steam Client updates using Steam main menu:
Steam > Check for Steam Client updates...

I followed the instructions and still no go.
I had no trouble running CS:GO for the few days I had it and I don't want to have wasted 15$.
Help!

I followed the instructions and still no go.

Describe this in more detail, please. What do you mean "no go" ? Did Steam update or did it not update ? Did you see some kind of new error message that suggests that Steam did not update when you followed the instructions ?

Post your operating system.

Post if that OS is 32 or 64 bit.

Post your antivirus program, please.

So when Steam asked me to check for the latest steam client update, I would do so and the it would tell me that I do have the latest update. Everytime I try and run CSGO it would ask again and I would check again. I can run the game Shellshock live perfectly fine.
I'm running it on a dell inspiron 15 5000 with i5 processor 8gb of ram and 1T of hard drive. I know this isn't a usual computer used to run games, but I ran it on the lowest video settings and like I said, it ran fine for a couple for days.
Right now I have the Mcafee antivirus.

Thanks for the help!

Ya new update on the situation. I opened Steam this morning and then tried CSGO and it opened CSGO in a minimized window perfectly. I can't expand the window right now, but thanks to Cathulhu i can guess it's McAfee interferring with steam.

I suggest this, if you need more help on that issue.

Temporarily uninstall McAfee, as suggested in the link given by the good Cathulhu, describe in the paragraph on that page concerning antivirus programs.

Restart your computer. Now I have seen this that I am about to describe from a case here from another user with McAfee. A special uninstaller from the McAfee website had to be ran to remove unseen child processes that were leftover after that user uninstalled McAfee. These "ghost" processes seemed to be further conflicting with Steam in that case.

So if you do uninstall it and reboot, after you DO reboot, click start in Windows and type in the box msconfig and click the result and run that. Go to the services tab and "hide all Microsoft services".

See what is left running. In the case described above that I saw, there were still two "ghost" processes leftover from McAfee that had to be specially removed to fix that other user's problem.

After you get it all sorted out and have removed possibly conflicting software and restarted your computer, you should run the file verification for any games affected. Do that as suggested here....
