I've been having issues downloading and updating games. When I check the graph, the gree disk line is opperating but the bars indicating the actual network connection are few and low, which causes downloads to last far longer than they should, or are impossible at all.

I have deleated and re-installed Steam, as well as signed in time and time again with no success. My house recently got a new modem after the previous one was broken in a storm, so that might be a factor. My twin brother also uses this account and so far he has not found the same problems, though he does stream his games instead of downloading them.

Same pb here (France). My max upload rate is 26.2 mb/s, but the actual speed goes up to 3 mb/s then 0 byte/s, all the time. Shouldn't have uninstalled CS:GO :).

No need to do re installing.Steam first download files and then you can see network traffic.After download comes instaling downloaded files and in upper right corner you can see installing not downloading anymore and now you can see disk usage not netwotk traffic.depends of game somethime installing take long time.

I see, but the problem is that this is taking a lot longer than it used to; I'm downloading Crusader Kings 2 and that took about ten-twenty minutes. It's been almost an hour now. Something is making the connection weak or something.

After download steam continue to install game there is no need for connection that is why you can see only disk usage becouse is installing not downloading anymore.All you can do is wait.

I'm sorry if I'm not reading your posts correctly, but all I see is "downloading", not installing, and it's not just disk usage but very sporatic, brief periods of the network showing.

which OS are you on ?

If you're on Windows 10: uncheck the DirectWrite option (Settings -> Interface)

I faced the same issue, but only with CS:GO, the game files were downloaded but it hanged while installing it. The workaround that worked for me:

1) Move the files from the steam directory steamapps/downloading/(gameid, in this case 730) to steamapps/common/(game folder).
2) Go to properties -> local files, and click on 'Verify integrity of game cache'

That way it will download only the missing/corrupt files and consider the game as installed.

Troubleshoot download and connectivity issues with Steam doing the following two easy and important steps.....

1. If you are using a router (I dont see mention of one), then bypass that router and use ethernet only directly from your modem to your computer. See the link below.....

2. Next, boot your computer into safe mode WITH networking, and log into your Steam client and attempt the downloads again there. Pay attention to any improvement or not that you may witness there.

Note I said WITH networking and not just safe mode. It has to be with networking.

I believe it is 10 but I can't find DirectWrite. I looked in the Settings and couldn't find the interface window. This is a problem I have with all games and all updates; before I re-installed Steam a mod update for Stellaris lasted for two-days without a single byte of information, it was always at 0%. I tried downloading a game earlier and I couldn't even get past the phase where disk space is alloted. I'm beginning to think that there's a problem between my computer and the Steam servers.

I have it connected to an ethernet cable, but no improvement, and I don't know how to do the second step. This is something I've never had a problem with before.

You should Google it for your OS then. "How can I boot my computer into safe mode with networking in Windows (your OS here)"

Normally, it is Start then msconfig and then under the boot tab, safe mode and "networking" checked at the bottom. Restart.

Well, I switched to Safe mode and back to a regular user again and that seemed to fix the problem for now, or at least mitigated it; the "network" connection in downloading graph is most consistant now, though it is still slow.
