Lag in specific games [SOLVED]
I'm getting lag in some of my games now. I don't know what the problem is because my ping is always decent and it used to be fine. Now all of a sudden some games (e.x. TF2 and Garry's Mod) get a very quick "lag" about every half second. Am I missing fles, have too many games downloaded, or is it something else?

You gave us no information on your system there that is much needed to try to help.

What is the operating system ?

Is that operating system 32 or 64 bit ?

What is your antivirus program ?

Are you using a router, a router/modem combo unit or ethernet only directly from the computer to the modem ?

You said some of the games. Post your system specs on the computer, and give some examples of games that lag.

Windows 10

64 bit

Avast (Free version)

Ethernet

All source games have this lag except for CS:GO

Make sure Steam and all games are added as real-time exceptions for Avast. Avast is listed here...

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9828-SFLZ-9289

So keep that in mind. Do you have any other programs installed as compared from top to bottom on that list ?

Post the model and model number of that computer. If it is custom built, post the exact motherboard including any revision number if that applies.
I'm having the exact same problem, I've seen multiple threads with people having the same problem all within a certain time period- about a day ago at the earliest. Maybe something is going on with steam?

I have a GA-970A-D3P from Gigabyte

I have LogMeIn Hamachi and Skype but they were always running in the backround before the problem.

I suggest that you uninstall those two programs and reboot your computer. It does not matter if u you always had them before without issues. Programs change and new conflicts can come up never seen before. Remove the possibility by removing the program.

I have seen Skype conflict with Steam even when it was not running in the background, according to the user that posted that.

Is that a revision 1.0 motherboard ? If so, did you download the most recent updates for it for Windows 10 64 bit from here, Gigabyte ?

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4642#dl

If that is the board, that is. Revison 1.0

Did what you said. Nothing got fixed.

Well, lets be clear here, please. You uninstalled those two programs and then restarted your computer and then you checked the manufacturer's website that was linked (the correct revision of board ??) and updated any drivers that needed updating, right ?

If so, do this...

If you have restarted your computer since updating drivers and uninstalling software, click Start in Windows and type in msconfig and run that. Then go to the services tab and check the box "hide all Microsoft services". Now, take screenshots of all that is left and post them here, please.

You can upload them to imgur.com and post the links here, as it is free to do so. Make sure we can see them all, so if you have many left, take multiple shots if needed and post all the links here so we can see it all.

There is one issue right there I personally helped another user here with the other day that was causing problems on his machine, and it is listed on the problematic software page......AMD External Events Utility.

So you apparently missed that one when you reported above on what programs that you have from that list. You still have that one also.

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9828-SFLZ-9289

Other Applications

IOBit Advance System Care
IOBit Start Menu 8
Airfoil
Alcohol 120%
AMD External Event Utility
(snip)

I suggest that you surely uninstall that one and restart your computer.

I have covered Avast. Avast is on the list also. If you have not fully made all exceptions for Avast for Steam and games, that can be a problem. The next steps, as outlined on the page are disabled and tested that way, then uninstalled and tested that way after a reboot.

What is that Rosetta Stone Daemon process for ? Is that a language based operation that emulates a drive as being mounted ?

If it is, then programs such as Daemon Tools and the like conflict with Steam and are on the list also.
Better consider that one, too, because it is currently running in your shot after a reboot.

EDIT...You can surely disable that when gaming because it is not needed then, Rosetta Stone.

ALWAYS restart your computer after uninstalling ANY software from it and BEFORE you playtest a game after that restart, you must run the vile verification for the game you are going to test FIRST. Do that as suggested here...

Rosetta Stone is a language learning software suite. Unlikely to interfere with Steam.

Yes, I understand what Rosetta Stone is but why is it called a "Daemon" if you know ?
Cathulhu Aug 29, 2016 @ 10:59am
Any process running in the background is essentially a Daemon, that's just tech talk:
