All of my Steam games are really slow and laggy after I first played Amnesia: The Dark Descent
The first time I played Amnesia everything went smooth. However, the next night when I tried again it crashed before the game could even launch.

It said, "!!!GAME CRASHED!!! READ THIS:
Something is wroooooong!
If all fails, go to http://support.frictionalgames.com/ for mod info.
Exception Reason
Amnesia exe caused an EXCEPTION_ACCESS-VIOLATION in module <UNKNOWN> at 0023.000000000.

I've uninstalled and reainstalled the game, yet the same thing happens. Ever since that happened with Amnesia, all my games have been so slow and laggy or just messed up somehow to the point that all my games seem to be unplayable. Even outside of games Steam is just starting to act a little funky. For some reason this entire paragraph is underlined red like nothing is spelled correctly. And while typing the second line of this paragraph just steam froze for about 15 seconds. Did Amnesia give Steam or my computer in general a virus? I'm running Windows 10 and will look up other specs if you guy need to know.

Not just how do I fix Amnesia, but how do I fix all my games? Is there some corrupt file I have to delete or something?

Okay, I've done exactly what it said to do. My games are still out of wack but since you said "Start by..." I assume there's more to do?

Post the model number and model of that computer. If it is custom built post the exact motherboard and any revision number if that applies.

Always post if your OS is 32 or 64 bit with giving that OS.

What is your antivirus program ?

Try this:
Your original GPU may have been disabled.
1. Click the Windows icon from your taskbar
2. Search "device manager"
3. Look under "devices" and make sure your original GPU is enabled (whatever it may be, AMD or NVIDIA); not disabled.
NOTE: If your secondary GPU is showing up (ex: Intel ****HD) your original GPU is disabled.

This is a common troubleshoot for random performance drops.

@OCTOBRSVRYOWN

I typed in "device manager" and the only option is was the Device Manager control tab. I clicked on it and got this. https://postimg.org/image/6jvnib585/ I couldn't find any "devices" option.

If it's blatantly obvious then sorry 'bout that, not all too tech savy but I'm learning.

That's fine, it shows your GPU. I notice it has a yellow triangle with an exclamation point, which usually indicates some type of problem.

That being said.

Post the model number and model of that computer. If it is custom built post the exact motherboard and any revision number if that applies.

This information would be very helpful.

That is one reason I asked you about your model number above, as there is no driver installed for your intergrated GPU there, according to that screenshot.

And you have not posted your computer specs so we don't know if you have a dedicated GPU or not so if that would even matter in your case.

Please, post what was asked for.

I will have a look here at your info, but already there is an issue..and you still have not told us if your OS is 32 or 64 bit here....PLEASE, provide that info ASAP.

AVG is in bold and with a green symbol on the list...

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9828-SFLZ-9289

And users have reported even newer issues that conflict with Steam from that antivirus program.

Well, according to HP, the architecture of your OS is not important, from my search.

If I have the correct computer, THIS is where you should have gone to download and install all of the most recent drivers for your computer.

http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-500-Desktop-PC-series/5399647/model/6529847

Is that the exact computer that you have ? You will need the Intel GPU driver and NOT the AMD or Nvidia one. I see many new drivers there, so I suggest that you update all of them where updates are available.

So.. because AVG is bold and has a green symbol I should try uninstalling it and testing the issue?
Easy answer to the AVG issue is yes, fully uninstall AVG and reboot your computer. But then, you will need to verify the game files for EVERY game affected, as suggested here.

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

However, this may be a waste of time until you get the drivers updated and fully addressed. Did you understand my last post and see the info that was given ?

Here is my suggestion to you...

You have a hardware and OS issue, as in you don't have your drivers installed or updated fully, according to your screenshot and what you have posted.

That is not a Steam issue. Therefore, I suggest getting your drivers and OS problems fully fixed and done properly, and for that I suggest the hardware and OS forum here.

http://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/11/

You can post there and give the link to this thread as a referrence but give your model and model number in the title post. Give them the link to HP that I have given to save them time and hassle locating the driver page, if my link above is correct. (check it, please)

After that, you can come here to address your Steam issues, such as AVG conflicting with Steam, as well as other software that you may have installed that we have not even covered yet, if that applies.

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9828-SFLZ-9289

Drivers are more important, as without them, you cannot solve any issues that you have now without having further errors or crashes or problems.

Yes I understand your last post. I'm glad to know it's not a Steam issue. Guess I need to fix my drivers and OS.

That part is not a Steam issue, however the AVG and other problematic software that you may have (we don't know yet) is a Steam issue and can be discussed here in this thread after you get the drivers sorted out. I am only suggesting this and not telling you what to do.

This is what I would do in your situation.

I understand. My tech savy brother in law use to do all this for me. Doing this myself, I want to make sure I follow these steps carefully and not make things worse. Your suggestions are what I'm following since I wouldn't know what to do otherwise. But I'll check all this stuff out and see what results come from it.

My profile is open for comments. In any case, if you run into a wall, feel free to drop me a message or link to your thread in Hardware and OS and I will try to help you if I can. Thanks.
