I have malware that slows down steam downloads - fixed
With the lousy, sluggish, dribble of a download speed, for me.... steam is now dead as an entertainment platform. That, as well as the continual crashes of everything I start to play since either the last steam update or some conflict with win 10... I don't know. What went wrong?

You updated to Windows 10...

Jokes aside, download speeds are fine for me in the Netherlands, from the Netherlands server. Your problem could be at any step between the steam server and your home.

As for Windows 10, did you do an update? If you did, a clean install may help alleviate a lot of the issues.

Steam works just fine on Win10, I've been using it for a long time now and noticed no diff between that and previous OS'es wheer Steam is concerned

Okay. Thanks for all the above comments. Am just off to work now so can't reply in detail. Will follow up on the links and take hearts from the reassurance given as well as having a chuckle about Washells remark about where I went wrong :D Thanks guys.

Wow. Steam seems to have been fixed. Cathulhu seemed to have hit the nail on the head. I used Malawarebytes and Spybot as well as a complete removal of everything to do with steam beforehand. Found Malware by the dozen !!!! Removed it all and now the download speed is great and no crashes as well as the game is faster :D Very happy. Thanks again !

Glad you figured it out. Win 10 is great so I'm glad you didn't fall for the "blame Microsoft" theme. If you have any other issues feel free to make another post, myself or one of the other regulars would be happy to assist :)

Well, it was the equivalent of a shotgun blast. Aim wide and see if it hits anything. Glad to see that it's fixed now.

That being said I usually switch to Sweden's servers for better download speed (I am from Switzerland). Take a look and find a server that might work better for you.

Is that Spybot Search and Destroy ? If it is, that is on the problematic software list also and I have personally seen it cause issues before.

Maybe you are good to go now, but just letting you know for future referrence.

The Local server does the job now like it used to do. Downloaded Warhammer is thirty minutes which is how it was before I started having trouble, but thanks for the advice mate

Oh Wow. Right. It seems to be okay for now but I'll keep in in mind. I got rid of the IOBIT Advanced tune up Software package. That might have been giving me some problems.

I was about to personally go round and blow a raspberry at Bill gates himself but I've put that on hold for now. :P I'm really chuffed to be able to now blow them at Orcs and their ilk ;D
