Because you don't have the mobile authenticator, I presume. You have to have that and have it enabled for 7 full days for there to be no more holds on items. When trading, the other party must also have it if you are receiving anything in the trade.

Far as I know as of now, only iphones and Androids (IOS) are supported. Not sure on that but I don't think the device that you listed above is supported.

See the FAQ for more information...

Is there any way to sell things WITHOUT the mobile app?

Sure, you just have to wait the hold time out and it all works fine. If you use the mobile auth. and after the initial 7 full days, you can use the market without restriction, unless you trigger one otherwise from the list that was linked.

If you don't use the mobile auth., then you just have trade holds.

Trade holds....

If you can't use the authenticator, then you have to wait 15 days before your item appears on the market, which means you can't sell the sale cards because they will expire before then. Support can't remove the restriction for you.

If you can't use the mobile authenticator, there's an app for PC called Blue stacks that will let you Run android apps, such as the steam one. Then all you'll need is a working phone number. It's probably not half as safe though, but it's an alternative.

All of that just to get phone numbers, make people install a steam app on their phones, and limit the selling of sales cards.
And who get screwed in the end : the legal users, as always, as it is not really as effective security wise (it's easier to get your phone stolen or lost than your computer)...
Well I don't have an androphone or an Iphone, so market is out for me from now on. At least I guess steam won't get anymore comission from my sold item, it's a tiny passive agressive type revenge but that's all I can do.

See my comment above yours on how to use it wothout a smartphone.
And its not about the legality of sale. Its because people (of course, not the brightest ones) were complaining about accounts being high-jacked. This became a problem, obviously, even though there was already a choice for 2-step. So this was implemented because of that, to prevent the not-so-smart little guy. Its annoying, but its a fact.
I, myself, have actually had my account "hacked" and saved by Steam Guard. Login from Thialand, correct account name and password, stopped because they didn;t have that little code. Turns out Ihad a virus on my PC.

And unless the person who stole your phone also knew your steam credentials or has access to your computer, then its still pretty secure. Just keep your phone safe.Theres even ways to have your phone locked down to prevent someone from being able to access the information on it in the event it gets stolen.

But yeah.
BlueStacks android emulator for PC http://www.bluestacks.com
And the steam app http://store.steampowered.com/mobile (Download for users without google play) Then all you need is any old burner phone number, and you can change the settings witin the app to be Email.
Obviously, using it like this, you'll be safe from someone getting in only knowing your login name and password, but if they were to gain entry to your email, then yeah. Use at your own risk.

Valve aren't doing it to spite you, get your phone number (Ive never had any calls, texts, whatever out of the ordinary since using the app, so I dont know what you meant by that.), or to deliberately make things more complicated. It's to protect those less aware of the risks involved in online sales and accounts like these and how to keep them safe.

The whole idea, though, is to have two factor authentication. If you circumvent the security of this feature by running a third party application on your computer to get around that security, then you are not using the security at all in the first place. If they can get into your computer, then in theory, they can hijack you because you are using your computer to run the workaround to the app.

For example, in the case of WinAuth...

"SUPER CAVEAT THIS IS TECHNICALLY INSECURE"

"The whole point of two factor authentication is to separate the authenticator from the authentication. Putting the authenticator on your computer means that a hijacker has access to your computer AND THE AUTHENTICATOR!"

"This is a big problem since they can steal the SteamGuard codes from you! WinAuth has a password option. ENABLE THIS OPTION. "

Funny thing is, security is what got us here in the first place, having to use the mobile auth. for trades without holds, so circumventing that very security that protects you is kinda exactly related to having to do all this anyway.

Using the app on a phone is definitely a safer option. But, if your unable to do so, running it on your PC is no safer/unsafe as not using it at all. I still dont understand why so. many. people. are so reluctant to use it, when they have access to it, because I personally have had no real issues with it.

Well, that is a strong point, and I understand how you feel, but the fact remains that thousands of people (77,000 account hijacks per month) said the same thing..."I never had any issues."..and then one day they got hijacked.

Just saying...using third party software to circimvent security can and has caused issues for some people. Use all that with extreme caution is all I am saying. Thanks.

Ah, I think you misunderstood me. I've had no issues with the app itself, on my physical phone, and can't understand why so many people are against it. I wouldnt really recomend using an emulated version, but it's not any less safe than it was, and I suppose its useful for some people If they're really desperate to use the market.
