Steam Desperate Problem

As soon as i start steam it closes automatically(it trys to update) i tried updating my drives software, installing steam again, putting it in a diffrent location, and restarting my computer many times. Can Someone Help? pls

What is your antivirus program ?

64 bit, Avast Anrivirus

It's possible that your Avast! Antivirus is blocking Steam from properly updating, as it is on the list of antivirus programs that may interfere with Steam. You should disable that while you troubleshoot the issue.

Anti-Virus program could potentially block Steam and Steam game access, especially when not properly configured for use with Steam. Please make sure that Steam and all Steam games are listed as exceptions in these programs. If the issue persists, please try disabling or temporarily uninstalling the program to test the issue.

Please tell us what Windows you have, as that was my frist question. You answered the second one.

(Windows 7, 8.10, etc.)

As the good TombRaiser pointed out, your antivirus program is on the list. So what steps did you take according to that first paragraph over the AV programs on that list...the paragraph he or she quoted above ?

There are 3 steps.

Also, do you have any other programs from that list ? Check it carefully, please.

Are you using a router ?

first of all, i will answer these questions but this happened AFTER i closed everything steam in task manager. Windows 8, Mcaffe but it is not activated, and yes a bell router.

Disabled is not the same as uninstalled, the third step...as suggested in the last sentence of the paragraph.

And bypass the router and use ethernet only while troubleshooting this. See this support page...

OK i am sry i am just very worried about steam because if i don't get it started again the next few years of my life will be very boring. It really means a lot. i tried again with avast and McAfee both uninstalled and disabled, still didn't work. later, i am going to try to reset my internet router (I do not have the correct things for Ethernet) Anyways, i will keep trying to troubleshoot.

Woa...Woa...wait a minute. What do you mean here with Avast AND McAfee ? How is it that you have two antivirus programs installed on that machine at the same time, or how is it that you did have them installed ?

Please do this if you wish to continue here. We can help you get this fixed, but you just have to follow our suggestions, please.

Post screenshots of ALL of your installed programs on that computer. Use imgur.com if you wish and post the links here. Be sure we can see ALL of the programs that you have installed on that computer, because with all due respect, you still never answered my question above but from you last reply here, I personally would rather see them myself. Thanks.

Wow..no wonder you have this problem...

McAfee (again, no wonder with two antivirus programs on the same computer, as you can't do that without conflicts)
Oh my ...Norton Online Backup...THAT is one problem for sure. You don't even have Norton AV so why have that anyway ?
And of course, Skype.

It is the same list that was posted above for you already, so why or how you missed these programs I don't understand.

The worst thing is that you have 2 antivirus programs and remnants of a third (Norton). Telling you right now that Norton Online Back up is a problem for sure. As I said, you don't even have Norton anyway so get rid of that cancer ASAP.
