Steam connection failed

Hey everyone, I am in a bit of a bind I recently got to college I am adjusting to the wireless internet that is provided but, when starting up my computer since I've been here Steam fails to connect. I've looked on the Facebook page to see if there was down time but there wasn't. Is there anything I can do knowing I have no access to the Wireless Router? Origin can connect just fine why does Steam seem to have a problem?

Hey, I don't know what your problem is but I started having the same problem a couple days ago at home and tried everything to fix it I'll let you know if I find a solution

You can have a look at http://steamstat.us to see the status of Steam at any given time. It's just a site that makes use of Steam's web API and updates every x seconds displaying the status of some of the bigger Steam components.

I have just checked game integrity files so fingers crossed...

Guys with issues try to check the game cache integrity and it seems to work. Just got online and all fine, well still playing like crap so all normal there.

How are you supposed to do that when you can't even login to Steam

not sure if this will help but I very often have my first login attempt fail every time I try to log into steam...I just cancel and retry and then it works...there seems to be other users here in the forums that are saying they are having other problems with steam lately...this could be related but not sure...good luck

I've tried everything in all the troubleshooting threads and nothing seems to work. My last step is reformatting my computer, but I'm trying to find put peoples ISPs cause I think Verizon is the problem honestly. Don't want to end up reformatting and Steam still doesn't work. Considering Origin doesn't want to connect either I think Verizon is the problem.

yea if possible, I would try to get to a wired connection to test everything before I reformatted, but if you don't have many files or games or modded games to worry about, then maybe it is not such a big deal...you could be right about the provider being the culprit my friend.

Steam won't login for me either, here in the UK (so possibly not a Verizon issue).
Had a windows update that required a reboot and the client won't login.
Opened the Steam website and got a page telling me I've not logged in from this computer before and they'd sent me a verification code, which worked (after forcing me to give a name to this browser - FFS).
Steam client still doesn't login.
