Caching Game Icons in Library
Is it possible to cache the largest Game Icons in the steam library in regular and big picture mode? It always takes so long to load them that i never use that mode, though it seems nice to have. So if i'm in offline mode there will be no icons in either mode. Caching the icons would help the loading process and that i could see them in offline mode as well. Is this possible?

Sure, it is possible.

But not for the programmers at valve.
Why? I don't know. Maybe Jesus.
The client needs some urgent rework anyways - maybe some day the wonder will happen to grow from digital stone-age to this century.
OR valve hires Jesus.

Yeah i have the same problems the icons are downloaded every time i try to browse the Library and in the most slow way posible (when downloading games i do it with over 5MB/s but the icons take over minutes to download) plus there is a problem in grid mode where when scrolling through games makes the new (already cached) icons not able to keep up with me and take over a second to show up WTF?!
I have SSD and 8GB RAM and am forced to suffer through this?! Come on make optional cache for such things.
And integrate the Tag system in to the Library Categorisation already!

well , progress in the discussion i guess . heres hoping a developer responds a decade later with a link to a patch notes saying this has been resolved and closes the thread.

That's optimistic :D given how steam ignores public opinion and just do what they want if they are not otherwise in standstill.
Hope VR competition in store will make them active again.
It's just sad how they sit on so much money and make improvements to there service less actively than GreenLight products developed by one man teams.

I don't understand the Thought process of business owners where they stop feeding the Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs to make profits and in doing so are killing it.
Yes, they work on many things, yes they bring new content, but the idea of Steam is to make a comfortable easy to use digital library of games and this front is outdated and hard to use.
They want me to buy over 1k games but don't provide me with easy way to interact with them to sort them and such.
Hope they see the "Big Picture" is not in the living room but in the already working but outdated Business model and that ignoring it for "Peasant Mode" is not the right way to do.

2 years later and big picture mode is still dreadful and I can;t see the point in it, it lacks so much and the tiles still aren't stored client-side which is the obvious thing to do. They also don't cache emoticons, cards, badges or backgrounds, so lame. I had to stop trading cards when using my mobile's internet because it was eating stupid amounts of bandwidth re-loading the cards over and over and over and over and over again.

Hey, it's 2018 and guess what? Still no caching of these game icons. FFS Valve, get it together.

They are not stored locally, that's why.

This is super ridiculous. The Steam bpm feels so sluggish and buggy its gross.... Its funny how Valve doesn't care abou these basics. On the other hand we are stuck using steam for other reasons, but come on is 2018 and your interface feels like from 1998!

Look for "steamgrid" on "github", that solves this issue for me finally.
Also in order to change some pics to more pleasing ones search the links in this article

Dont wait that Valve fix this, they just don't care since years.
