You can be banned for buying a Steam gift and putting it in your inventory (for example, when it's on sale), and then re-selling that game to someone else (for profit).

Buying from third party retailers is not the same thing.

So, all is good if i bought a game and activate for myself?

If a key you buy is stolen, it can be revoked (just look up Sniper elite 3) and you will potentially lose your money. Don't think I have heard of anyone being banned as of yet. You do run the risk of getting region locked keys from re-sellers as well.

g2p? Personally haven't used it. Heard some bad things, but have also seen people that apparently use it all the time. I would just stay clear.

Edit:- O buying gifts from other people. Right sorry disregard haha.

Buying a game from a third party retailer is fine, Steam has a system which allows you to enter keys manually if that is how they do it. Some sites require you to link your steam account and they activate the key for you.

What is not ok is paying someone money and then they send you a trade offer containing a gift copy of the game.

Here is an example:

I have a gift copy of Gun Monkeys in my inventory. I don't even know where it came from, but I have it. It currently sells at $5.99 if you were to go to its store page.

If I were to offer to sell that gift copy which is sitting in my inventory for $2, then I could be banned for doing so. Likewise, if you bought it, then you could be banned for that.

Could you elaborate on what you heard instead of just saying that someone said something bad?

Teksura, thanks for your time. I learn now that i can be banned if i resell game keys, but that was never my intention.
Only thing i am not sure of, is G2Play doesnt resell game keys, so i will stay clear^^.

Thanks again!

wait if you sold the game or traded it for keys/another game would that be banned or is it just real money

I think its same thing, but either way that isnt justifiably. If someone bought something, that "thing" become his property and it is normally to do with "it" in own way.

The thread end with: " G 2 P are not authorized sellers."

So, that is final answer, i think!

The warning message in your first post applies first and foremost to Steam gifts. In other words, games that you purchase via Steam, but don't activate immediately, and place into your inventory instead.

Selling and/or purchasing the above-mentioned games is a bannable offense. For example, if you were to buy hundreds of games when they are heavily discounted, and resell them at a later date.

As for keys, there is no significant difference between buying activation keys from Amazon, Humble Store or any other site for that matter.

You do not get banned for activating keys in any way, shape, or form. Regardless of its origins.

Actually, there is. The sites you mentioned are all legitimate shops, which is also hinted at because Steam doesn't turn them into cute little hearts. This doesn't prove anything (someone has to maintain the lists, after all), but if a shop gets heart-ed out there must be a reason. I can also mention Greenmangaming, the GalaStore, GameFly PC and other stores without getting hearted.

However, stores like MMOGA, G2A and the like are fishy shops that get their keys from dubious, sometimes illegal sources, sell you region locked keys (possibly even telling you to use a VPN to activate them) and so on.

Along the same lines, if you see people bragging about some top-notch store with great deals, but for some reason they are putting spaces or other characters into the name and don't give a link, you might want to take a few second to think about WHY they might be doing that... hint: its not exactly out of the goodness of their hearts. It is connected to hearts, though.

That is true; however, it won't jeopardize our Steam accounts in any way, shape, or form. I was under the impression that the OP was wary of getting banned.

Keys are always bought at one's own risk. If something doesn't work, you'll have to contact the retailer that you bought it from. Steam neither interferes, nor gives any guarantees whatsoever.

Amazon and Humble Store are definitely more dependable than the ones that shall not be named. You could save some money, but you could just as easily lose some.

After all, you get what you pay for (or dont!).
