Steam Download Speed Issues.

This have been happening for a while actually, for almost a month actually, but I decide to just let it slip for a while cause I thought it will be resolve soon, but yeah as I already said, been almost a month and it still act this way.

For starters My internet Speed is 2Mbps, but everytime I update some games or download some games, it only uses like 200-300 kbps of it.

And dont tell me its something wrong on my end, cause I have been experimenting before i decide to go here.

I have another download program like IDM and when I use that it always hit the least 1000kbps. and I tried with a lot of different file And still 1000kbps, at least, most is like. 1.5kbps.

So whats up with steam? Why just 200-300kbps? Am i the only one? or is this an issues for a lot of people ?

And yes before this Steam also uses 900-1000kbps of my download speed, this issues just started around last and this month, really bothersome, it takes like a whole day to update some big update, or some files need to be validated and redownload :/

Because the internet speed in Mbps is actually this, i have 15mbps internet and i get 1.7mb for download speed..

Well that doesn't explain why it was 900-1000Kbps before this month then. Cause It WAS that fast for like as long as I can remember since I have Steam, it just start to uses only 200-300 around this month.

Because 2 megabits per second converts to 250 kilobytes per second.

Steam's download metrics are by default in bytes, while there was a temporary period they'd showcase them in bits.

If the speed you were previously witnessing was 1000 kilobits per second. Then your 250 kilobytes per second is actually faster than that. You can change the metric nowadays under
[Steam > Settings > Downloads]

Display download rates in bits per second

Not that, whatever metric it is - the speed is the same while the units differ.

It said 2.19 Mbps. So that is in Bits? But then that doesnt explain that when Im using IDM to download it said 900+ kilobytes.

Now this is just confusing.

Speedtest results by default are in bits; Steam download speeds by default are in bytes.

Thats not what im confused about, I get it that 2 Megabits = 250 Kilobytes

But what im saying is if speed test is showing result mine is 2.19 Megabits

Then how can my IDM reach 900-1000 Kilobytes

I never said it made my download speed faster really, I dont really know how to explain but my download speed have always been 900-1000 both in steam before and IDM, but now only IDM went to that number and Steam doesnt.

That is what I'm trying to figure out, I already Know IDM uses all of my internet speed to download, been using IDM for year, it uses 100% all of your net capability, in other words, u cant even browse on your chrome cause IDM is using all of your net caps. Everything else is slow as heck.

So that link doesn't really explains what Im trying to figure out. What I wanna know now is that now the number in steam just went to 200-300 but IDM still 900-1000

And no its not about the bit or Bytes, i remembered that i never changed that in the setting, and i remember in the download whenever i go thats the number. It have always been in bytes not bit.

Boot your computer into safe mode with networking enabled.

Test download speeds there. See if you notice any changes.

Thanks for the help guys. Idk what happened but my download speend is back to 900+ Kilobytes per second again. Idk why steam have been limiting my download speed these past weeks for almost a month, and no its in kilobytes cause i checked the setting and the "in bit" is not ticked.

My maximum speed is back. :D
