Is there a way to disable steam ads
they're annoying when they get in the way

uhh. What ads? Steam doesn't throw ads up. Pretty sure you just have malware, dude.

Try this: https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/

Probably he talks about the Steam game recommendation popup window.

The news popup that appars once per startup and wouldn't be described as a plural or in the way?

It's not even an ad, it's useful and tells you when pre-order games and DLC have been released.

If you're seeing actual popups then you have malware.. scan your pc.

It's an advert. Your TV will tell you when things have been released - it's still an advert. Or actually adverts as there are usually 5 or 6 items in there.

But as said, you can turn it on and off in the Steam Settings.

That is the definition of an ad. It doesn't matter if it's useful or not - it's an ad.

oh if you don't like that.. at the tippy top where it says Steam - View - Friends - Games - Help
pick "Steam" then "Settings" then go to the "Interface" section and uncheckmark the box near the bottom that says "Notify me about additions or changes to my games...."
