Tell steam where to download files

when I download a game, it does not ask me where i want to put it, how can I designate where steam puts my games?

Steam>Settings>Downloads

Click the first drop down and create a new folder where you wish to install games. From there, when you click to download a game, a prompt will come up asking which folder you want it in.

Normally, there is no need to. The default location is in the Steam/steamapps/common folder, wherever you first installed Steam to when you first installed it.

Follow the helpful advice above, though, if you want additional libraries for games.
