An error occured while updating xxx (content file locked)

Hello. I need help with updating Chivarly Medieval Warfare. Whenever I click to update this error occurs after a few seconds :
"An error occured while updating Chivarly: Medieval Warfare (content file locked) \steamapps\common\chivarlymedievalwarfare\Development\Src\AOC\classes/AOCGameSettings.uc" . I tried reinstalling the game, checking integrity of game cache, restarting steam, other threads about disk write errors but never found this one. I had a similiar problem before, with disk write errors, but I fixed those by locating the corrupt file, and setting rights to it. But now, all the files inside
"classes" appear, then disappear and the error pops up.

What is Pamela RME 2.0?

Pamela RME 2.0 is a program developed by Scendix Software GmbH. Upon installation, it defines an auto-start registry entry which allows the program run on each boot for the user which installed it. The main program executable is MoodEdotir.exe. The software installer includes 8 files and is usually about 3.26 MB (3,416,863 bytes). What about my post that you just quoted and the program I mentioned there ?

Pamela RME 2.0 ? What is that for, as it sounds like something that could possibly block the files from being moved from th downloading folder to the game folder. Or apparently, something is blocking the files from being written to that folder or your drive otherwise.

I would suggest you start looking deeply at any program or process, even if that program does not run on start of your computer.

ManyDownloader sounds like it is similar to a Torrent client. You said you don't even use it or have seen it download anything. Get rid of it then and erase it from the list of possibilities.

You have to keep in mind that programs may have child processes, that are part of that parent program, and even if that parent program is not started or it is disabled, that may not prevent the launch or running of those child processes.

In other words, just because the program is disabled or not running, don't dismiss it as a possibility.

At the moment, all I can suggest is that you look very carefully over what others may have done when getting this error. It really sounds to me as if something is affecting the writing of the files to the downloading folder or the transfer of those files from the downloading folder to the game folder.

Same problem just occured with me with planet coaster. I have a clean installed pc since about a week or 2. I don't have any programs like utorrent,... Just steam, office etc. Nothing special. So I don't think any installed program can be the problem

I have an ssd with 100gb of free space that have less than an year of life; so there were enough free space and not any kind of errors.

During my search for solve this, i try to check my antivirus if it can be a problem: i use bitdefender, when arma 3 try to update the battleeye's executables, bitdefender put them into quartantine (ROFL) and block steam during his process to download and install that update. I excluded both files from quarantine and arma 3 update goes fine. :-]

Before uninstalling games and formatting hard drives, try this if can solve your problems;]

Have you looked over the threads and posts I liked a search result to previously ?

Have you tried deleting the entire contents of the downloading folder after exiting Steam, and then logging back in and trying to download it all over again ?

- Verify or unpause the download, the game should be fine.


The file can be locked for several reasons. In my case was that steam did not stopped the service before trying to move the file.

This does not fix the problem. Something is blocking the corrupted file to download into my common folder, so I can not do anything with it.

Might be a bit too soon to close this one, my problem is also back.

Post screenshots of all of your installed programs, please, if you want more help on this. Make sure we can see each and every program on that computer that you have installed, so take as many shots as you need to and upload them to a file hosing site such as imgur.com then post the links here, please.

I will try to dig up that thread with the user that had the router/modem combo unit/software conflict to see if that can help.

EDIT...Found it.

I was wrong. It was not a software conflict that seem to have helped that user. He/she disabled the "N" band (leaving only B and G) for the combo unit to use to download and it seemed to help immediately.

You can try that, perhaps.

Also, you can try resetting your netsh winsock cache...

For Windows 8 and 10:
1) Press Windows key + X
2) Choose Command Prompt and make sure to run as administrator
3) Type "netsh winsock reset" (without the quotes).
4) Press Enter, close out of the command prompt and restart your computer.

Okay so I had this problem and I had tried everything that was listed on here. The only thing that worked for me was to run CMD as administrator and type step 3 from above & restart my computer. I feel as though had I seen that first I would have saved myself a couple hours of frustration.

If you click on the small 'steam' button on the top left coner of the client then click settings, downloads and change to UK-Manchester, If that doesnt work then idk worked for me
