Xbox style controller reads as nintendo switch controller
I recently purchased a GameSir Bluetooth controller from Amazon but my steam deck reads it as a Nintendo switch controller and the buttons are backwards. I've checked the option to swap back the A / B buttons but the X / Y are still swapped in many games and some games have menu controls and then in game controls.

Is there any way to change how steam reads my controller so I can switch it to an Xbox layout?

Looks like they've got a lot of fancy gamepads. Which one did you buy?

See if there's some mode switch on that thing.
You could also go the easy route & remap this thing from the desktop on the Deck. I did that with an 8BitDo one exposing the right trigger as a button for whatever reason. Remapped, problem solved.

GameSir T4 Pro.

There's no mode switch that I can find. Even after remapping it, the games still read it as a switch pro controller and will prompt you to press b or y instead of a or b.

Which is essentially a Switch Controller that also supports other systems like mobile and PC.

Doesn't matter how it looks, they built it for the switch.

Remapping in Steam in desktop mode? That's where you get to the root of what button gets reported as what.

It likely depends on the chipset used inside and it's architecture.

Many third party controllers are emulating or copying other controllers. Wouldn't be surprised if this controller uses the Nintendo Switch as a basis, which is why you're seeing it as thus.

Now look at the rest of the pad, it’s practically identical to a Switch Pro controller.

Not sure if you already resolved the issue. From the link posted earlier (https://www.gamesir.hk/pages/T4p-tutorial ) it's a multi-mode controller and you mode switch with button combinations when powering-on and then you perform the pairing.

Try the third process from the link
Press B+Home to turn on the T4 pro
Turn on the Bluetooth
Search for Xbox Wireless Controller and pair
T4 pro is connected now

After that you turn on/off as normal.

Power On: Press and hold the HOME button for 2 seconds to power on.

Power Off: Press and hold the HOME button for 5 seconds to power off.

Pairing Mode: According to the gamepad mode you want to apply, select a button-combination to power on to enter the corresponding mode, which is to enter the pairing mode.

Reconnect: The game controller will remember the last pairing record. The next time you turn on, you don’t need the button-combination. Just press and hold the HOME button and power on will automatically reconnect to the last paired device.

Confirmed that this method worked. Guess I'm just lazy and didn't want to do a Google search and read for 5 minutes.

Thanks everyone!
