Q: Is there a way to mute the alert from just individual people's chat messages?

Sometimes a friend is sending a lot messages when I'm trying to do something else. They're a friend, so I don't want to block them or go offline - I want to read the messages later. I just don't want to keep listening to every alert with every message.

I also don't want to turn off all the alerts, in case another friend tries to start a convesation, I want to know about it, unlike each and every message of a conversation in progress.

Update: I found "Notifications" on the Chat Tab, so that mostly works. But if the conversation is closes, how would I turn the notifications for just that one person back on?

Yes, right click on the friend in the Friends & Chat list. Select Manage. Click on Notifications. Uncheck the box under "Play a sound" for "When I receive a direct chat message."
