How can I delete files stored in Steam Cloud servers?!
I've wanted to start Gothic 3 again.
A new playthrough, without old saves and settings.
And here, there is a problem.

This game includes a Steam Cloud, so everytime I launch the game, the old files (saves/settings) are downloaded, as the original, so I can't start a new, fresh game.
When I click at the game, there is an info that Steam Cloud takes 200 MB.
How can I remove it?

I've tried to disable Steam Cloud.
Then I removed all files, which included *remotecache.vdf* and *steam_autocloud.vdf*.
And it starts again. When I enable Steam Cloud, the old files appear.

There is a *Steam Cloud Error* for a while and *Changes from another device have not yet been uploaded to the Steam Cloud*.
That's it. I can't overwrite it.

Any tips how to fix it or I must to play without it? :/

PS: There is no *remote* folder at (Steam\userdata\myID\39500), dunno why.

If game has delete save option in game, use it to remove all saves and exit game. Steam should sync to cloud removing all the saves you just removed.

If there is no in game delete save option, you'll need to manually delete the saves while game is running, then exit the game and the saves should be removed from cloud.
Remove saves on the HDD directory for that game. Disable cloud.
Start a new game no saves now.
Make a new save.

Tried it a hundred times, doesn't work.

Well then you're doign something wrong then.

WHAT doesn't work, as the answer will tell you where the problem is.

If it's picking up the old cloud savesa after you've done this then you are still picking up the cloud save with net access.

If it's picking up another save then you havent deleted all old saves locally.
There is also a web page that will show you the contents of your cloud and allow you to manually download or delete them.

https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorage

Just make sure you delete any local saves before you relaunch the game or they will be uploaded back to the cloud and you'll have to start all over again.

It only allows me to download, right?

The link shows over 500 files at Gothic 3's cloud, that's a lot.
And that's probably because I've tried to overwrite it.

I'll try my luck again.

Whops, I thought there was a delete as well as a download button but I guess I was misremembering.

If I remember correctly though you can launch the game, tab out and delete your save files, tab back in and then exit the game normally and that should clear the files on the cloud.

Yes, it does a very good job.
Thank to you and to the Anonymous Helper.

Somehow I managed to delete all those files, so I can start a new game.

From among that many tips I found at Google, the simplest one was enough.
You're welcome. Have fun! :wftohappy:

I know it's been a long time, I hope you get this message. When you say the game is running, do you mean the game remains in the main menu or the saved game is loaded? Also, should the save files in the user data in the Steam folder be deleted while the game is running?
Check own load and save game option in whatever game, to stand on that game, click or hit delete key on keyboard, this is seen as the right way, ( not funny then there is 100 of save game. )
This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
