Super Frustrating
I bought a copy of Battlefield 1 for my son, we thought we'd be able to share it via Family Sharing - I mostly play New World. So I let him play BF1 for a while to see if he liked it, which he did. But when we came to try and family share it, it didn't work (Origin stops this?). So now, I try to ask for a refund so I can gift it to his account, I am told no. Seriously Steam, work on your customer service here. I literally told your CSR that they can refund and do the gift themselves if they don't trust me.

WHY ON EARTH IN THE SITUATION LIKE THIS - Family Sharing not working, why can't you work to fix it with me.

It REALLY makes me not want to spend any more more thru Steam. If this had been bought through EA, I could have just installed it on his machine, and not had any problems. But now, because its tied to my Steam account, he can't play it.

I deleted multiple f-bombs while composing this missive. In fact, if you do not refund this, I will buy him Battlefield 1 directly, and skip the clown show that is Steam.

Games that require a 3rd party account (EA, Ubisoft Connect, ect.) can not be family shared.

Not all games can be family shared. Developers choose if they wish to allow family share for their games.

By the looks of it, you have 3.2 hours on the game. The refund policy is with in two hours of game time and two weeks since purchase. If you out side of either of these, then you are not guaranteed a refund.

Game can not be transferred.

Support is not offered in the forums. These are user forums.

also another thing , Origin is also a client share content to other raise same issue with share account information, so again require they allow such, im not into whats shared or not, and never will be, its a grey area, with to many share things with other that live other places and not really in same household on same place, + diffrent platform even or person or pc., some can most cant, as i said a grey area.

You went with assumptions you didn't check. Your assumptions failed. Instead of throwing that drama, take this as a learning lesson. Either check assumptions before going off them or have a back up plan (i.e. not throw a drama) when your assumptions fail. Helps a lot.

Can all Steam games be shared with friends and family?

No, due to technical limitations, some Steam games may be unavailable for sharing. For example, titles that require an additional third-party key, account, or subscription in order to play cannot be shared between accounts.

Where Refunds Apply (automatic refunds)

The Steam refund offer, WITHIN two weeks of purchase AND with LESS than two hours of playtime, applies to games and software applications on the Steam store.

Both conditions must be met. (AND)

Note: you can try a manual refund by choosing the game and selecting "i have a question about this purchase" BUT it is discretionary as to whether the refund is granted.

And finally:

Refund policies - Take your pick.

1) Steam - Within two weeks of purchase and with less than two hours of playtime

2) Epic - Games and products are eligible for refund within 14 days of purchase. However, you must have less than 2 hours of runtime on record.

3) Origin - Whichever comes first.

Within 24 hours after you first launch the game.

Within 14 days from the day you bought it, if you have not launched the game.

Within 14 days from the release date if you pre-ordered the game, if you haven't launched it yet.

4) Uplay - You can request a refund for a digital order within 14 days of your purchase, as long as the content has not been launched.

5) Blizzard - The game is newly purchased within the last 3 days. You haven't started the game; if the game has been played at all it won't qualify for a refund.

6) GOG - starting now, you can get a full refund up to 30 days after purchasing a product, even if you downloaded, launched, and played it. That's it. (Open to abuse, they monitor for abuse as do all PC stores).

The refund is being automatically declined because the game is outside the conditions for a guaranteed refund request approval (purchased within two weeks and played for less than 2 hours).

To make a manual ticket for a refund request:

Click on "Help" at the top left of the Steam client

Select "Steam Support"

Select "Purchases"

Select the game you want to refund from the list

Select "I have a question about this purchase"

Provide details about the issues you are having (that you did not know that the game cannot be family shared so you want to refund it and buy it again as a gift for your son's account).

Hope that the refund is granted since you do not meet the conditions for the automatic approval of a refund.

Here is a link to the Steam Support Purchases page https://help.steampowered.com/en/wizard/HelpWithPurchase

I wish that the section about appealing a denied refund in Steam's Knowledge Base included all of the steps for submitting a manual refund ticket, because I think that choosing "I would like a refund" again will just get another automatic denial.

My refund request was denied. Can I contest this decision?

If you feel that there has been an error in the handling of your refund inquiry, please submit another request at help.steampowered.com. The request will be reviewed by another Valve employee.

It would be even better if it showed pictures of each step like it shows for how to request a regular refund here https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=6695-QIKM-7966

I think that Steam users shouldn't have to post in the forum to find out the steps for making a refund request when they are outside the conditions for an automatic acceptance, but still have a valid reason for requesting a refund.

Yep, you can try a manual refund, but support can't do what your asking. They can't move a license, they can't refund and rebuy it, etc. It's kinda nonsensical what you did.

if the game was for him it should have been bought on his account in the first place, makes no sense to buy it on your account instead of putting it on his account

I think you can play with only one account on the one time with family sharing, I don't know issue with Origin, Ubi problem, etc
