Game Progress Refuses to Save on Steam
I've had issues with steam actually saving my games and progress.
I'll play a game for several hours, and It'll seem like everything is fine - but then once I exit out of any game - it's like my entire progress gets wiped, and everything reverts back to prior.
For example, I'll load up Nier Automata on an old save, and play for a couple hours. Everything will seem to be 'saving' in game. When I exit and launch the game again, it'll revert back to what my save was before I launched the game the first time? It's like my steam is stuck in a specific period of time, and just keeps forgetting everything I've done since that point.😠

And it's not just Nier, it's pretty much happening with any RPG I own which I launch from Steam. It feels like it's come out of nowhere too - I'm not one to mess with files.

In the client itself, steam seems to be functioning fine? The steam cloud says that everything is syncing, and cards/hours played/achievements still save - it's the actual data which isn't wanting to stay.
I'm not sure whether it's potentially a hardware issue - but on other game launcher platforms (Epic Games, Origin etc), there's no issues whatsoever.

Is there anything I can try/do to fix this?
Thank you

Edit:
Reinstalling steam actually made all my steam cloud saves stop working completely :skull:
I'm not sure how one posts images into a discussion forum - but imagine a row of games being "out of sync"

Second Edit:
1. I've tried verifying the integrity of game files, and I've checked that everything is set to read/write.
2. The antivirus (Windows Defender) doesn't seem to be messing with anything.
3. I've also tried running the games in Offline mode, and the data doesn't seem to want to save to local files either. It all seems really stuck in time
4. I've tried turning off Steam Cloud save, but this doesn't change anything

It's worth checking the folder it's trying to save to isn't set to read only, for Nier that's

C:\Users\YourName\Documents\my games\NieR_Automata

Yep yep. I've checked, and it's all checked as usual (read, write, etc etc)

This is a real long shot, I'll admit, but have you checked your antivirus isn't messing with stuff and quarantining?

I've checked. Windows defender doesn't seem to be messing with anything :(

If the AV isn't the issue and even though it isn't working, try disabling Steam cloud and seeing if it saves ok.

Does your username in windows have any non-standard characters, this has caused issues for some people in the past.

Nope. It's just my name :)
That's so interesting actually. Which characters usually cause issues?

From what I remember it was non-Roman alphabet characters. I couldn't tell you if it was specific ones or general, it may well be something that's been fixed by now. I'm out of ideas on your problem though. Hopefully somebody else can help.

No worries. I appreciate the help regardless. Thank you <3
