how? I've tried dragging the icons to the bin but nothing happens. And they don't appear in the application section.

Have you tried clicking on the shortcuts with your top-right mouse button and selecting "delete"?

That's what I do if an application puts a short cut on my desktop when installed or updated. At least Steam lets you choose whether or not you want it to make a short cut when you install a game.

no - nothing happens when I double click. I've tried finding if there is a way to do so on steam but i'm still pretty new to it so might have missed something

Single *RIGHT* click on the icon, not double-click.

You don't double click.

Right clink ONCE, then from the drop down menu, choose delete.

Sorry, I meant right click - nothing happens. I'm using a trackpad (macbook air) but I doubt that has anything to do with it, right?

I have experienced the same issues and whilst following the above suggestions may work, i can see they didnt work for you nor did they work for me. i have a solution that has worked for me and might just work for you.

- reinstall game; the game doesnt need to be fully installed, once you see that it is installing check next step
- go to desktop right click on the shortcut select delete or drag to bin
- go back to steam stop install and uninstall

hope this works for you like it did for me.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
