Steam client waking up screen from sleep
I purchased a new computer and encountered an issue where my monitor would always wake up 2 seconds after entering sleep mode. Invested a couple of hours on it trying all available online suggestions about using powercfg.exe and could not trace it to anything that is using the built in windows mechanisms for the purpose of keeping the screen up, so I reformatted the machine and reinstalled everything 1 by 1 to catch what was doing it. It started again right after I installed steam.

I noticed that if the steam app is running and showing in the taskbar tray then the issue exsits, and if I exit the steam app then the issue goes away.

So I googled again with the new knowledge and found a couple of threads on the subject like this one: https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/1753525585397818157/

But.. none of them suggested a solution and some are dated back to 2018.

There's definitely a bug there that perhaps manifests very rarely. My new computer is experiencing it whereas my old one doesn't experience it.

Anyone knows of a solution?

Generally power savings settings do cause this, but they can often be a bit odd to track down (thanks Windows).

Not only go through with a fine tooth again through Windows power savings settings but go to your disk drive properties too (and USB properties) to make sure they don't have any "put to sleep while dormant" settings on either.

The issue only ever happens when steam client is running and the steam icon appears in the tray. When I quit steam the issue does not happen the the monitor is not woken up after 2 seconds. It is a steam issue for sure, not windows.

For me it's exactly the same.
