Thats what we know, so you should assume that happened, to be better safe than sorry.
But as far as i know, steam should tell me through email if an outsider even tried to log into my profile, which hasn't happened. Are we 100% sure it couldn't just be a steam error in this case ?
I know i'm probably being bothersome but i already changed my password 3 times now and i would want to avoid a 4th time if it's possible.
Why would you want to find excuses to ginreo it when you can simply and easily play on the side of caution?
That makes no sense
It's best to assume your password is compromised.
Because changing passwords, especially one you have used for a long time, it's safe sure but also a bother in a way, you need to re-think a new one and make sure it's both a safe one and one you won't forget, which it's not easy for everyone.
Don't take me wrong tho, i don't despise safety, but i also wanted to be sure that if i need to change password i'm doing it because there is an actual danger and i'm not doing it for nothing
Of that i wasn't aware, thanks for pointing it out.
I'll change the password right away then
So you'd rather place your bets on an "error" than doing the smart thing and taking proper security steps?
No... no of course not.
Just did what i had to tho, hope it hold up
When i look at my steam password, its stupid and simple. But if i look at it from "guessability" perspective, good luck......
I know you cant control that, but dont.
The most damage a scammer does is by let the user panic. That way they tend to do stupid mistakes and forget about any security measurements.
Like I said, I understand why we panic and its hard to control. But try not to.
That is correct. That list shows only successful logins. That are logins that provided username, password and auth-code. w/o the auth code it's a pending/timedout login attempt and wont show up in the list.
So like everybody else told:
Someone has your username + old password. You must change password.
Since Steam wasnt hacked AFAIK and brute force didnt worked for the last 10-20 years, you shold lookinto how you leaked your creds. So you wont repeat it.
What's so wrong with doing what I do - make ANYTHING up. That's no issue. You don't have to think anything. You can just hit keys, as long as you record it.
And that's the second thing - use a paper and pen or a password manager if you must. I use a diary. Dead simple.
The point is that changing passwords should be a doddle, or you're doing ti wrong. It should be something you do anyway from time to time.
