new to PC, got really bad input delay. Any ideas?
I was playing Elden Ring and I noticed there was like a 200 ms delay between pressing a button on the controller and the action being performed. I feel like my pc should be able to handle Elden Ring. Are there any noob mistakes on the settings or the rig that might be causing it? Don't assume I have common sense because I am new new to actually having a PC.

You should post some more details.

Specs? Have you tried other games? Same thing with keyboard and mouse? Is the game itself actually lagging besides the input delay?

Try to update your drivers

Is your display a computer monitor or a TV?
If it's a TV, check if it has a "game mode" you can enable.

My ps4 controller froze, constantly drifted right and randomly unplugged after the latest ER update. I disabled all windows controller support, entered Steam, enabled steam controller support, entered Big Picture Mode, set controller settings to ps4 support, calibrated for deadzone, restarted steam and haven't had any issues since. Maybe this helps you.

For controller part, fastest input would be wired connection with Xinput device.
And disable Steam Input.

Wireless (especially bluetooth) and Steam Input add delay.

Other part would be your machine performance and monitor or TV's input lag.

In general TV is slow even game mode.

Power Management profile on Balance instead of High Performance
Windows Update running while you game...
etc.

Do not run anything you don't need and make sure microsoft doesn't make your system run it, then you're absolutely sure nothing odd causes that.

Is the controller wireless? then it may just be lower in priority compared to other things. (default settings)

I second this. I have tried different TV modes and the input lag was atrocious. It is instant in Game Mode.
