Game updates no space

Hello, from time to time,there are some game updates, It says that it cant download them because there is no space available, although all my partitions are around 8-15gb free space, the update is around 3,5gb ...... I dont get it, nor the update :|

8-15Gb is very little.

Keep in mind that the patch download is 3.5 Gigabyte, you need additional space to unpack and process the game data that needs to be updated. That can easily exceed the free space on your drive depending on the size of the game.

Thank you for the fast reply, how can I find out how much space do I need ? ....for say so 4gb of required shown space on the update, how much do I need ? ....apparently double the update is not enough :[

Well you can't know exactly.

YOu should always follow this set of rules.

NEVER go over 90% of your hard drives usage. And always allow up to three times the total file size you're trying to download.

Basically you have nowhere near enough space and should either make more space or get another drive.

No problem. A lot ofpeople fall foul of this as it's not that well known.

Remeber to always keep this space,but also remember you can do what I do too - buy more drives. I run a laptop for gaming (by my bed) and have threee other drives added to it, three of which are external USB drives. Last one I bought was a 2TB one for £40 off Amazon.

So they're a really cheap alternative.

Its a nice alternative indeed ! Maybe I will get an external gaming ssd hardware only for steam gaming , maybe attach it on the wall or something ,would look a little nice ! :] For now I deleted some old files and such ,seems I managed to delete around 40gb's and managet to do the update. Thank you friend !

It's not recommended to use external drives directly for Steam.

I had to upgrade a .5tb drive to a 2tb for performance issues as stated. Ample storage of this dedicated Samsung 970 M.2 nvme drive is complimented with sequential read at 3483 mb/s and write at 2525 mb/s. I see storage devices listed under minimum specs for high end games now.

While this is indeed said, I have yet to see ANY evidence of this being a problem for most people. Everyone I've suggested it to, and myself all have worked fine without issue.

I repeat what I've said before, my whole time on this STeam account has been using a laptop with USB drives. Nowadays it's USB 3.0 and above, but even so, none of them out of the 14000 games I have cause any issues whatsoever.

I have two games on an SSD because they're open world games and when I create a new generated world it saves a bit of time, but as for other games, there is no pissue for any of them.

So yes, bear in mind thi IS a point from Valve themselves, but I'd like to see some hard evidence of WHERE and how it actually manifests because I haven't managed to get there.
