Keep in mind that the patch download is 3.5 Gigabyte, you need additional space to unpack and process the game data that needs to be updated. That can easily exceed the free space on your drive depending on the size of the game.
Remeber to always keep this space, but also remember you can do what I do too - buy more drives. I run a laptop for gaming (by my bed) and have threee other drives added to it, three of which are external USB drives. Last one I bought was a 2TB one for £40 off Amazon.
So they're a really cheap alternative.
I repeat what I've said before, my whole time on this STeam account has been using a laptop with USB drives. Nowadays it's USB 3.0 and above, but even so, none of them out of the 14000 games I have cause any issues whatsoever.
I have two games on an SSD because they're open world games and when I create a new generated world it saves a bit of time, but as for other games, there is no pissue for any of them.
So yes, bear in mind thi IS a point from Valve themselves, but I'd like to see some hard evidence of WHERE and how it actually manifests because I haven't managed to get there.
This is an issue commonly happening when Steam can't immediately find the games its looking for.
