[SOLVED] Games suddenly running poorly.
Specs:
Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 3
i5 4460
GTX 1060 6gb
8gb Ram

I downloaded Sims 4 for my sister and let her play it for about 6 hrs and the next day Ark:Survial Evolved which ran at 60fps, started to run at 8-22fps and Overwatch went from 100+fps to 6-20fps. There are no programs running in the task manager other than spotify and chrome that I usually keep open while I play games anyway.

I downloaded GPU-Z to track my GPU but everything seems normal.
I uninstalled Sims but it didn't do anything.

Have you checked your temps? Your system might throttle due to high cpu or gpu temperatures.

Have you tried to check for malware/viruses?

Ark booted up faster though there was no difference to fps.

Go into the windows power settings and make sure it's set to "performance mode" and not "power saving mode"

It's okay,

I'm starting to run out of ideas though, try this:

In your NVIDIA control panel go to 3D Settings>Mnage 3D Settings>Global Settings:

1. Power management mode - Prefer maximum performance
2. Vertical sync- Off
3. Threaded optimization - off
4. Triple buffering - off

Try this and let me know if it works :)

P.S. Don't forget to press OK in the control panel :steammocking:

It's improved framerate a little bit. I don't have numbers because the malware scan messed up my fps counter and stuttering has improved. It's not as good as it was, but still thanks for your help.

Don't just look at the Task Manager.

Run msconfig from Windows Start, and check services tab also. Check the box "hide all Microsoft services" and look carefully at what is left.

There was nothing hidden there.

There should not be anything hidden. The services should all be listed for you to see, as I only suggested for you to check the box to hide the Microsoft Services. That makes the list shorter and easier to look at.

EDIT.........

I don't see your operating system listed in your specs above. What Windows do you have ?

What BIOS are you running on ? There can be some optimizations in the BIOS, as well as an update, that can be related to performance with Windows 10. Many manufacturers recommend having the latest version if running Windows 10, but not the beta shown here. The latest stable release.....

https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-Z97X-Gaming-3-rev-10#support-dl

(revisions 1.0 linked. If you have revision 1.1, you should click that in the header there instead)

1. Take screenshots of all of the programs you have installed on your computer. Control panel then programs/programs and features. (Windows 7,8,8.1) or "apps" (Windows 10 click "Start" (Windows icon on bottom left))

2. Click Windows Start and type in msconfig and run that resulting process. Go to the services tab and check the box on bottom "Hide all Microsoft services". Take screenshots of all that is left.

3. Then go to the startup tab on top of that same window (Task Manager in W10). Take screenshots of all that there also. Don't forget to scroll down if needed and get everything in the shots, please.

Post all the links to the above screenshots here, using a file hosting site such as imgur.com, which is free to use.

Windows installed an update the night everything went wrong. So i uninstalled the update and everything seems to be running smoother now.
