Disk usage limited
hey! So i've been trying to download a game and my disk usage is limited to 2Mo/s here i was able to hit the 8 to 10Mo/s not too long ago. Could windows or steam limit the usage of my disk?

You have tried changing region right?

As the sale ends, download servers will be hit hard for several days.

Downloads are not like online gaming so you shouldn't choose servers close to you if yours is busy. Quite the opposite.

Google timezones. Find anywhere in the wordl thats around 2 to 4 am and play around until you fidn the fastest.

Always learn the region dance during sales.

Could it be that you put a quota on your disk by mistake ( I think it's in advanced sharing )

You should check two things while you're downloading - the downloads graph on the Steam downloads page and Task Manager.

Downloads are determined by not your net speed, nor your hard drive but also your RAM, CPU, I/O etc together.

Watch those two things and you might see what is actually limiting things.

all of these were low on usage (max 20% on "memory" so i guess it's my RAM)

Well if everything's that low and your RAM is at 20%, it's not any of them then.

However, if your disk usage is the same for SSD and HDD, that would indicates likely your I/O is limiting that. That's not that unusual.

The next question then becomes how full are the disks you're using? Because slowdown often occurs when yuo're running low on space.

Many people get this thing wrong on Steam - it requires no more than 90% usage of your install drive (in space that is). Also games that are downloaded are both encrypted and compressed so you need to allow up to three times the total file size.

For example, having a 1TB drive and you've ucrrently used 800GB means you're good. You've used 80% of the drive and you have 100GB still to use before you hit that 90%. But if you then try to download a 100GB game, you'll not have enough space as you'd need up to 300GB.

So make sure you're not gettin gclose to that,

My SSD is half full and my HDD( wich i use as storage for my games has 750 free GO on 1TO so i'm not worried on this point.
I also did a defrag in case it could help but it wasn't necessary
