It's not helping. Games still won't launch.
This must be problem with steam, because witcher 2 on steam dont run, but on GOG ewerything its fine! Game run propely.
For now: Witcher 1-2(sequel run propely on GOG), call of juarez gunslinger, Risen. Call of duty modern warfare 2-3 too, but i check files, and game start in this case.
OK, let's start with the basics: Read this and do all the steps you haven't already - it'll help us rule out the obvious: https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/5814-D9A3-BE42-62DF
If none of that works, from command prompt run a quick DISM scan "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth" followed by a command prompt "sfc /scannow". All without the ""
(Google if you want more info on these scans, but they're literally just basic Windows diagnostics tools. It'll rule out Windows as the pesky culprit. Also, DISM scans and Steam do wonders.)
I did both scans, DISM scanning was good, undamaged files but the sfc scan finds corrupted files and windows fixes them. Unfortunately, the scans do not solve the problem.
then i point it out but userdata wont work for both places that my point. you need to be skilled and know how to fix such , and most here will say standard steam user dont know how, now it up to you and know each game where they save or use same config.
No one here will waste there time on Dual system issue and its installed Games with steam or GOG, thats a nightmare to explan, and post might e locked by a steam moderator soon, then this is not a steam issue or GoG issue, and is user own problem to deal wih it.
you might not like the reply, but be greatfull other see diffrent issue here, and dare reply with it.
semi same from the past is seen before with cdrom/dvd and a steam version or even then ppl had a free none paid version. things cant have 2 install and it all about configuration issue and user data left in system from previous version.
and that my point here not a steam issue , but user lack the knowledge and skills to deal with it. and im not even sure anyhere want to even help you if they dont have same game and GOG in your case.
I installed the witcher 2 from gog just to check if it works. Normally only on steam I always had this game installed, and it was working a few months ago, now it has "magically" stopped, and you want to convince me that it's not a problem with steam since the problem only applies to games from this platform?
I tried to install call of juarez after cleaning all remnants, registry entries etc from the system even after reinstalling steam itself and nothing helped, for next example Risen wants to download one corrupted file every time I check the files, how can I not blame this platform since only here is the problem?
Turning off antivirus or disabling often won't fix things if it's quarantining stuff. you have to go into the antivirus suite and check the quarantine list. If there's anything realted to the game or steam make exceptions for them.
If things still persist aftter that you could have some corruption with your steam install (if it's happening with a few games).
What you can try is the old fix all: Go to your steam install folder and delete EVERYTHING except steam.exe and the steamapps folder (where your games reside).
The run that steam.exe and it will reacquire all the files required.
