Anyway to know what games are SSD compatible?
Been having issues when playing alot of older games, as late as 2016...they will constantly stutter unless I install on regular HD. I understand this has something to do with how data is handled....but is there anyway to know before installing if a game can run off an SSD or not?

SSD causing stutter is news to me. Shorter load times should be the only effect noticeable. Can you name specific games where this issue occurs?

Well just earlier today I was playing Dreamfall Chapters (episodic game from 2014-2016) which was giving me constant stutter on SSD, the moment I switched to HD, it runs perfectly. But theres just too many older games I had this problem with, off the top of my head, Call of Juarez The Cartel and Gray Matter are 2 other recent examples that come to mind.

I dont think the SSD is the problem. I played all those games in the last few years and i use only SSD in my system since 2015.
All those named titles work completely fine for me without stutter.

I have zero mechanical drives in my system and play games as far back as 1990 with no issues.

Is your SSD worn out from use? Do you write and delete a lot or for whatever reason run a defrag on it? Get a program that can check drive health.

Are you sure the games having your issue are compatible with your setup specs?

If Doom Eternal is not working on your PC specs with a SSD, don't expect a better difference by switching the type of hard drive, if you understand my example...

Was the SSD where you installed your games...also the same SSD where your save files being stored (usually also has your OS)? Titan Quest Anyversary was also giving me stutter on SSD, and I read it had to do with the game install folder being in a different drive to where the game was saving. In my case I got my OS on an HD and all my SSD are external.
There is clearly something wrong with your configs or the drive itself. Maybe time for a new drive or a clean OS Install.

I only use it strictly to install and run games, and no I didnt defrag it...I already checked the drive health and it looks good (only about a year old).

2016 games? That's weirds in your context. IF this is a hard drive issue, I recommend you to download the trial version of Hard Disk Sentinel to check it. This software, which saved my life few times, will analyze your hard drive continuly in real time (no impact on CPU or RAM) and will check the motor, reading error, raw error, spin retry, bla bla bla, and will alert you for any problem and it can even give a estimated lifetime span before it died for good.

Why is that weird? It has something to do with how games handle data. And again you quoted a post I made where I said I already tried when you said XD

I read that changing w/e the "Pagefile" is may help greatly (apparently the game will still try to use the HD even when you running it off external SSD), but no idea what it is or how to change it.

Was hoping someone would be able to give some genuine advice :(

Provide some evidence of this being an actual problem with SSDs then. I've never heard of it or experienced it and nobody else in this thread has either. It seems far more likely to me this is an issue with your drive being external

What is the exact model of your SSD? Is it plugged into a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port?

E: this is also worth linking

External hard drives are not recommended for use with Steam or Steam's games. Aside from many potential performance issues , external hard drives may connect or disconnect from the computer at inopportune times as part of their normal operations. If you encounter this issue with an external drive, install Steam and your games to an internal drive instead.
