[Linux Mint 20.2] Steam updating games randomly at every startup ?
Hello,
Everytime I start steam on my (freshly installed) Linux Mint 20.2, it updates games randomly.
Even if I close steam and reopen it in the same hour, it will update things. Not necessarly the same games and rarely for more than a few Mb. It's hardly donwloading anything, mostly patching stuff

I tried to clear the steam download cache to no avail.

Has anyone had this issue before ? (If it matters most of my games are using proton).

Have a look around here and use the search function to maybe find others that have posted about it :

I tried ... But it's kinda hard to look solution for a problem when you don't know what the problem is... And "steam update/download every time/hour/day" didn't gave much useful answers other than "clear download cache"

You don't have to know what the problem is to use the forum search. Just use key words from what you see happening and have a look through the threads. You can use quotes around the text to refine the searches.

You can disable it on settings>shader pre-caching if that is a problem for you.

You may find an answer if it is not shader cache on the Linux forum.

Turning off the shader pre-caching does """fix"""" the download issues.
It's quite annoying to gets 50 or so download everytime I startup steam.
100kb for this, 50 mb for that, 1gb for mirror's edge. Everytime, all I have to do is restart the computer and bam here we go again...

Now that I know what causes this I can search for a solution. But for the time being I'll turn this feature off. It's not worth it.

Have you found a solution yet?

The solution was the pre caching that you can turn off
However it is now bugged and even if you turn it off it still downloads
Steam will fix it...................................................................................................................................................................................eventually
