Go to the top left corner of the UI. See the "Steam View Friends Games Help" bit?

Click on "Friends".

See the drop down menu and the words at the bottom? Choose offline. Or inviisble (if you want to remain online but not be seen).

It shoudl stay for every time you log on. If it doesn't then you have some cookie cleaning software or plug in (in Chrome likely) that causes this.

Well then that's the point - if it isn't "fixing" then you either have a plugin in Chrome or whatever other browser you use that is Chrome based or some software that clears cookies and such each session.

Steam uses a fork of Chrome for it's UI - that's it's backend.

They're not the same company, that's moot.

As to how to ifx it, that's down to you I'm afraid. You need to go through and find out which of your security software or plugins is doing this or what setting causes it.

It can be anything like antivirus, firewall, or any other security suite. Or maybe the manufacturer of your PC has software included too, or as I said a plug in a chrome based browser.

It's going to be down to you digging around and finding out.

Try FriendsChat bottom right corner
Click the Cog
Friends List
Toggle 'Sign in to friends what Steam Client starts' to off

Exit Steam
Open Steam and you should no longer get auto logged into Steam Friends

When I login to friends I'm shown as Invisible as that was my last state

EDIT: Missed a so underlined the addition of it

Do not skip this step. Lots of the client's settings are saved upon exiting. Minimizing to the system tray is not enough
