If it is x86(-64) based you will be able to run Steam, but considering the low performance hardware of all Chromebooks, you will be limited to non-demanding games.
You either won't get anything running or a few low spec games will run and that's about it.
Laptop = Windows or Linux
Chromebook = Andriod
Macbook = IOS
Laptop != Chromebook != Macbooki
If they were all the same they'd all be Laptops but have different OS like Windows and Linux.
Had my Dad repeatedly contact me before xmas asking for advice on whether Chromebooks and Macbooks were decent specs for the money. He wanted to continue using the same software he already owns for his old laptop, Windows. Had to tell him repeatedly they are not the same and I have no idea about Macbook hardware to even attempt a comparison. In the end I had him give me a budget to allow me to find him one after the 4th call
EDIT: Strike main correction, couldn't be bothered to edit the rest

ChromeOS is a Linux.
Good Point. Lil tired. Was right on the Macbook part. Just thinking Chrome == Google and Android. Can mix stuff up halfway through the day let alone later evening after a few beers. Was the software not working a the Chromebook with my dad, I think............think it's time to quit. I'd edit but feel I'd prob screw that up too
