What download regions are best for faster downloads? 2022
The title says it all. I live in an apartment building that has decent wired internet and my max Mb/s is 6.1. I have tried multiple different regions FAR from me to no avail.

I'm assuming your location on your profile is accurate? Pennsylvania?

I have my download region set to Houston.

Yea i tried Housten. Still 6.1. My building uses xfinity

Last place I lived had Xfinity. I used Houston there as well and speeds were always maxed out.

You have something else wrong. Reboot your router, computer, check connections, etc.

I get 5 Gbps download and 5 Gbps upload.

Most of the time 400 MB/sec on the closest steam server to me thankfully.

Basically there is NO best region.

Many people also make the mistake of thinking it's like online gaming where ping is relevant and you need to pick the best closest to you. This is WRONG.

It's a ONE WAY stream of data, so ping ain't a thing!

Here's what's best for you to do. If you're trying to download and your local server is congested and slow, then choosing a neighbour is likely to be equally slow. So google timezones. Find ANYWHERE in the world that is currently, say, around 2am to 4 am.

Pick any of those and tweak it a bit to find the best.

Bingo!.

and make sure not to use "download restrictions" in your Steam Settings under "download" tab.

You are a genius, Swapped my download region to South Korea (because its 3AM there)... and BOOM max download speed with no drops. Thank you for this. Gave you a "Clever" award.

Are you use an apartment internet? If so, too many people use it may affect your internet speed.

No problem :)
It's a regular thing to do, but unless you know how Steam works (and it can be a bit weird) you're not gonna know. :)

Just as a further heads-up, you most likely get these issues when the sales are on, especially the two big ones summer and winter, so watch out for that.

Choose ANY location for downloading. Remember it's not like online gaming as it's one way.

You can choose ANYWHERE in the world.
