I have no idea about that, sorry. I would never use that as it is not the proper level of security for using two factor authentication. After all, you don't have "two factors".
The phone and the computer being two. The computer having a desktop auth. is just one.
You might be thinking 'it will never happed to me', but so were many of the 77,000 + account users per month that was one of the reasons for adding an authenticator.
Security that can be bypassed is pointless security.
i had no idea that many accounts were on steam
Roughly 125 million.
Check out this news page for more info about why the auth. was added.

There's 11 million people using Steam right now. Today's peak of concurrent users was 14 million.
It was a nightmare.
You can use a desktop auth. if you wish, but you need to be aware of the dangers of that.

"Can I transfer my authenticator to my new phone?"
Yes, you can.
To transfer your authenticator to a new phone, you'll need access to the phone number associated with your account (so we can send you a text message to confirm it's you).
From the Steam Mobile app on your new device, try to log into your account. When the app asks for your authenticator code, select "Please help, I no longer have access to my Mobile Authenticator codes." Follow the steps the app provides and you can either transfer your authenticator to the new device or remove it from the previous device.
After transferring the authenticator, any new trades or market listings will be held for a couple of days to protect your items in case your authenticator is ever transferred by a malicious person. See our Trade Holds FAQ for more information about trade holds.
ok thanks
