Friend disappeared
Hi,
so I had my online friend message me later today, we were chatting about playing later together today and I went on discord to copy something for him. Discord proceeded to bug out, so I had to restart it and closed the chat with friend while in it.
When I copied the stuff and went to friend list, I found out my friend disappeared. His name was "K gamer" and on steam I can´t find anyone with this name. I also checked all my friends names history (if he changed it) but none had it. I also opened all the chats looking if I found ours, but no luck either.
TLDR: Chatted about playing with friend later, but he disappeared from steam without a trace

Any idea what happened?

maybe his name got temporary replaced with his profile ID.
its also possible that he removed you from his friendslist (then you don't see him in yours either)

Edit: There are plenty of people who use the profile name "K gamer".
apparently a lot are from South Korea.

Edit 2: just a few examples.

Just use search.

Edit 3: So I checked you friendslist since its public anyway, and there is one person who has a profile id number instead of a name there:

Is this the friend you were talking to?

Edit 4: I am starting to wonder if I should bump the thread so that they know there is more / new information. (idk if they're checking)

There are a few other ways to find your old friends. First, you can check your activity or chat history and the like to see if you spot them there. Otherwise, try one of the following methods.

Check under Historic Friends using a third-party website. For instance (and specifically for you), like this one: https://steamid.uk/profile/76561198169884786.

Or alternatively, you can go to your Steam installation folder and look for them in your localconfig.vdf file. It's located in your Steam pathway --> userdata --> [Your Unique Number] --> config --> localconfig.vdf

Open the localconfig.vdf file using Notepad++ or Wordpad or the like and then you can search for your historic friends from there if you haven't reinstalled Steam or moved to another computer or anything. I even just tested this method again just to make sure and it works just fine in finding old friends.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

That is all new information to me to be honest, interesting.
localconfig seems to not care though, if it is a current or previous friend.
and it also seems to have putten everything I followed between friends.
like, every game. xD

edit:
Steam: "Games are your friends. Look at how many friends you have!"
Me: "owo"
