There may be restrictions on the computer placed there by IT personnel if it's provided by your employer. Some employers do that, as schools do that provide laptops and tablets for students, because they don't want them using it for gaming. If it's provided by your employer ask about it might be the only way to find out if they have it blocked. However they have it blocked might be password protected so users can't change those settings.

If you own the laptop you didn't mention whether you checked whether your anti-virus and firewall if you have one is blocking it or not. Insure they're not.

The computer is not provided by my employer. It is bought and owned by me. I just use it for work. I checked without firewall and anti-virus, Steam didn't work either.
It was working fine just a day before that post. Then one update (?) and ♥♥♥♥ hit the fan.
I've also installed Sea of Thieves from Microsoft Store in the meantime. Maybe this f--ed something up. Apart from that I haven't changed anything in this PC.

Please write to Steam support, I've done this, if there is more of us there is a chance they'll fix it quicker.

Do you get the SteamUI.dll-error while starting Steam or while starting a game?

I got answers from support with some instructions to follow, but now I'm on holiday so I'll test them after I come back.

But how? If you get this error while starting Steam, how can you start a Steam game then if Steam doesn't start due to an error?

Normally it is possible to start a Steam game directly from the game's folder, simply by double clicking game's file.

But for most games, that then prompts Steam to then open up also. You might be able to do that with some games on Steam, but not most of them.

That's good as in "there's an easy diagnostic step". Start your system in safe mode (for obvious reaons with networking) & try to start Steam then. What happens?

Thats what I meant - now I can't run them with this method either.

I did their instructions but nothing helped. I was instructed to send them file from "Steam/dumps" folder. This folder is empty in my case. Lol.

Would you mind trying what I suggested above?
roaming_mushroom May 17, 2021 @ 10:04am
I tried it - unfortunately, the error still appears.
