CSGO crashes while quitting through the in-game menu

As the title says, whenever I quit CSGO and go back to the desktop, my computer just craps the bed and freezes. I tried deleting the csgo.exe file and later verifying the game cache but that didn't work. I set the launch options to cl_disablehtmlmotd 1 and that didn't help either. I went into properties, unchecked everything and that still didn't work either. I even bought Left 4 Dead 2 recently and the same issue keeps happening with that game as well. I have to resort to manually holding down the power button after each freeze. Does anyone else experience this issue or just me? Any tips and or suggestions would truly be appreciated.

Alright, so I contacted steam support about this and they said this; I need to lower my video settings because apparently my hardware was not strong enough to handle the video settings I selected. However, the game itself runs fine with those settings while I play it. Its only when I have to quit out of the game does my computer crash. So now I have to manually lower my in game video settings to be able to return to my desktop without the computer crashing. Does anybody know why this occurs? Why does the core gameplay run fine, but then the game decides to **** the bed on me and crash as soon as I try to quit?

Btw the fix I mentioned above worked for both L4D2 and CSGO.
