Steam Randomly losing connection
Okay so please read the whole thing before posting. I know this is asked alot but from everything i've seen posted mine is a little different and a little weirder.

My steam client loses connection alot. but not losing connection like you'd think. it doesn't mess with my game internet connection i have never been disconnected from a game because of it. the longest steam has ever "lost Connection" was 1-10 seconds. it even doesn't disconnect downloading games. (the download will still continue) The client will say no connection and my friends list will go offline. and i've tried a ton of solutions with no success.

restarting steam
relogging steam
deleting all steam files except steam.exe and steamapps and re-downloading all the files.
resetting router and modem.
running a diagnostic on my network..

everything else that uses internet is fine including the steam games. except the steam client itself. my download speed is also never steady it fluctuates constantly and i have to keep changing download locations to keep a decent download speed. i've been looking far and wide for a solution to my problem but nothing seems to work.

i currently use wifi. again everything else that relies on this network works fine. except the steam client istelf. does anyone have this same issue??

If your downloads are fluctuating, the usual first thing to do is trying different regions, as well as some very far away. Try many, if needed.

Change Download Region

The Steam content system is divided into geographical regions. The Steam client automatically detects its current region and uses content servers located in that region for best performance. Sometimes, servers in a specific region may be slow, overloaded or have a hardware failure causing download issues. It is advisable to temporarily switch to a different download region to use another set of content servers.

Steam -> Settings -> Downloads -> Download Region. You may need to test several regions other than your own.

I have seen cases, depending on the game data being downloaded, where most all of them needed to be tried, if not all of them.

well at that point i had tried everything. its not as bad as it used to be though. but of course my problems were 2 years ago. and it seemed to have been fixed a while ago. don't know how long though. and i mean my downloads havn't been that bad lately.

Never troubleshoot connectivity issues using a router or wireless connection. Temporarily bypass all that and run ethernet directly to the modem.

Then test the downloads again, changing regions still, staring at your default region.

Then, if no joy, boot the computer into safe mode with networking, to further troubleshoot and see if a new software conflict is present. As long as all drivers are fully up to date, including the OS, then this should show improvement. Change regions still more while in safe mode with networking.

I see this is an older therad, so my posts are to help you as well as the user that revived the thread. Feel free to ignore if you no longer need help. Thanks.
