It doesn't apply everywhere and some are hard-coded to always be censored.

Yes, you need to understadn that there's different levels on Steam. Here on the forums, for example, it's intended for help so EVERYONE will have access to it, young and old, and varying in circumstances and regions. For that reason the swear filter exists (thankfully, because I'd have been ♥♥♥♥♥♥ years ago).

But in other areas it's a hard setting so doesn't apply.

I see the third-last word of this paragraph uncensored. Is it different for others?

I see no hearts in this thread.

This is what I did specifically...

https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/12/4420805388060811363/#c4420805388065290437

And the only things filtered are blacklisted links and hard coded filtered words like, free and skins. Put the 2 words together and they are filtered no matter what.

In what I said? Nah, because only that was a swear word - deliberately added to show the point in this case, I might add.

I hope your communication skills improve, you'll need this throughout life. Keep your vocabulary clean and your respect will gain the communities attention while you fly in formation.:GFcompass:

This is a very valid response. However, not entire the case all the time. Perhaps he's trying to name a song(s), achievement/name of an item or something. I don't know, the hard-coded censoring in Steam itself makes perfect sense though.

If only that were that simple.

While you are generally correct - learn to use a clean vocabulary when appropriate - reality isn't set in a vacuum. And with involvement in modern media you're going to have a hard time when quoting, referencing and so on.

Plus there's also the usual regional silliness where one country thinks nothing of a certain word, where others balk.

However, this is merely commentary as I don't believe there's any reason to change here. Everything seems to be working fine.
