"Ethernet doesn't have valid IP configuration"

My Ethernet cable isn't connecting to the internet, and is labeled as "Unidentified network." After I ran the network trouble shooter I got the the error message in the title. How do I fix it?

Restart your router/modem and your computer. This happens if your PC is trying to connect to the network with IP address already assigned to another device.

If the issue keeps occurring try the following in Windows (10, I assume)
- Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Network Reset (at the bottom)
- It should prompt a restart being needed then.

Why is it not connected to the internet ?
What is your hardware configuration there, exactly ?
