Is there a way to switch ps4 controller support on/off without going through big picture?
I would like to be able to quickly switch ps4 controller support on/off without going through big picture/settings.
Is there a command line argument, rest api, or any other way to do this?

Yes. Steam settings. No need to open BP, but you need to open settings.
That's still going through BP. And i have been going through that.
By default, hold down the PS button and press Triangle. That's what I do, same goes for the Xbox controller. Home + Y.

Should've read the word Support

You meant the entire configurator. That can also be turned off per-game basis under an individual game's Properties.

This.

Steam > Settings > Controller > General Controller Settings

It is an interface window. BPM is an entire front end.

Why turn off support for the controller though? I just unplug mine or disconnect the wireless adapter.

For games that have native ps4 controller support like Honkai Impact 3rd.
If i dont turn it off, it either doesnt detect it or displays the wrong controller icons.
Try the way Tev has noted. Leave it on globally but disable it per game (or the inversion of that).
Right-click the game in Steam Library > Properties > Controller. Choose the override from the drop-down.
So... 2 things with that....
1. shortcuts don't get that feature. don't know why...
2. Honkai Impact 3rd doesn't like being launched via steam. Actually crashes the computer.

EDIT: And i think it cleared my steam settings.

Ah ok... plus I also just took notice of this message regarding PS config support:

When connected over Bluetooth the controller must be power cycled after opting out. Opting out on a per game basis also will not work.

The message doesn't exclude the inverse option, but I don't know if that was an oversight or it means the inverse (opting in on a per game basis) is possible...

So you find PlayStation config setting affects non-Steam games when they're launched outside of Steam, right? Does it have different behaviour if wired or via BT?
What config do you have for Desktop Configuration, a gamepad config?

If we don't figure out a good Steam method, and you're on Windows, an alternative is DS4Windows. It's easy to enable/disable plus looks like you can configure it to start/stop emulation for individual programs.
DS4Windows is essentially the same as ps4 controller support in steam.
What I want is to DISABLE ps4 controller support WITHOUT going through "Steam > Settings > Controller > General Controller Settings".
I would like to create a script that lets me quickly enable and disable ps4 controller support.

Honkai Impact 3rd has NATIVE ps4 controller support but steam hijacks the controller unless it is disabled. Otherwise, steam sets the controller to desktop mode, an xbox controller which screws up the icons IN Honkai (I.E. ABXY instead of XO[ ]/\), or prevents Honkai from recognizing/using the ps4 controller (via wireless controller driver).
Yeah, I get that they perform, in essence, the same function. Just an alternative if what you wish for in Steam isn't figured out.

Perhaps the Steam console window will display useful commands when configuration support is toggled on/off. It can be enabled with -dev.
All the best with the endeavour! o7
