How can I emulate my keyboard?
I recently purchased Spongebob: Rehydrated. It doesn't allow for keybind configurations. My "W" key is broken, which is why I've been using RDFG for my games as of late. I was considering refunding the game, but I came across someone saying that you can emulate your keyboard through steam and change the keybinds that way. Can anyone tell me how?

Can also use AutoHotKey.

Download current version at AutoHotKey.com

Run installer > Express install > Run AutoHotKey

Click 'create a script file' to view their tutorial - basically this:

Right-click on Desktop > New > AutoHotKey script

Type a name, press Enter.

Right-click it > Edit Script

At the bottom enter in
r::w d::a f::s g::d

(Left side is what you press, right side is what system will read it as)

Save and close.

Double-click the script to run it.

Test in notepad if you wish, type 'rdfg' output should be 'wasd'.

Stop/pause the script or exit AutoHotKey (check System Tray in bottom right) to return things to normal.

I think they might be thinking about that steam function which allow you to emulate/use keyboard entries with a gamepad (like what anti-micro does) ... but I don't know this is something I'm curious to know about too.

Im now checking out Anti Macro and it seems I require a controller. I'm gonna look in to this program a tad bit more. Thank you

It's need a controller , but thing is if you already have a controller the game is recent and probably support controllers too.

Yeah, I unfortunately don't have a controller. I was hoping I can find a solution for keyboards.
Thanks anyways!

Is there a reason why a new keyboard isn't an option?

Computer related items are expensive in my country
I think what you might be looking for is not a key input emulator but rather a Macro software which I think should allow to to bind a key to act as another key.

just make sure that if you install a macros software that this is not running in the background while playing online games with an anti-cheats.

Do you know any good programs? I'm completely unfamiliar with such things

Lemonfed offers possibly the right way to look at this. I don't have any examples to give though, as I've never used them.

However, are you SURE you can't simply rebind keys? I'm not talking about within the in game options, but have you nosed through the install folder(s) to see if there's any config files you can alter?

I'm no tech wiz. You've just taught me something new. I have to check this out. Thank you

No worries. I'm not exactly much of a wiz if at all. But I'm a relentless fiddler.

If you have a nose at files like "config" and try opening them in an editor, you'll usually be presented with a list of commands and you can work out the bits that refer to controls.

I've examined ALL the files. Unfotunately, a config file does not exist :( Thanks for this suggestion though. Might come in handy in the future!

Ah never mind. It was worth a shot :)

Just a thought, because it works in some games - have you tried turning off "num lock" and using the num pad?
crunchyfrog Jun 28, 2021 @ 5:46pm
Another though comes to mind - what kind of keyboard is it?

If it's a fairly usual button or switch type keyboard and not a chiclet one (those slimline ones like on most laptops), then you might be able to easily fix that.

If so, you can turn the keyboard over, open it up, and take care to remove the broken key switch with another less used key.

If you're not up to it, fair enough,. Just thought it worth a mention.
