Some on Discord DM'd me with a screenshot of supposedly being scammed of 500 dollars, and most likely reported my account by accident. Do I trust them about this?
So, on Discord, I just got a DM with a screenshot, which by the way, my steam account is connected to my discord account, and the screenshot title of the help request says "I have been scammed of 500 dollars and mistakenly reported the wrong profile." Someone has DM'd me with the same situation before, and I never got banned seeing I did nothing wrong and I still haven't. I'm just wondering, do I trust them on this case?

Alright, thank you. I was just making sure. And plus I kinda just looked to see if there's an account named on what they had for it in the screenshot, and there isn't. So I'm guessing it's photo shopped. Anyway, thank you.

Simple rule of thumb - if ANYONE contacts you either claiming nonsense like they reported you by accident (which CANNOT get you in trouble anyway) or claiming to be Valve staff or something, then you can absolutely rest assured they're fake.

Valve ONLY can be contacted one way only. By support ticket, which you have to instigate anyway. They do not email you, they do not talk to you through any messaging.

Because of this simple rule, it's dead easy to spot scammer.s
