what i just learned about deleting one's own forum thread that they themselves created...
1. you cannot delete a forum thread YOU create on any steam forum after it has 7 replies.

2. contacting a moderator via the post report system and asking them to close/delete YOUR forum thread that YOU originally created is considered and abuse of the system.

3. deleting YOUR OWN posts from a thread YOU originally created then editing the title and body of the OP to . followed by unsubscribing from said thread gets you a warning.

that's correct. i could not delete a forum thread I had created on steam manually and when asked how to reach a moderator i was given a link to the page where moderators are listed BUT if they're not on your friend list you cannot message them.

using the "report post" system to try and contact them to request your thread be closed/deleted is considered an abuse of the system.

deleting all of your own posts and editing the OP of the thread YOU created so that nothing is left will get you a community warning.

F'ed up doesn't begin to cover this. not remotely

I clearly explained how you are wrong about this in your last thread. If their comments are open, you can ask them to close the thread but they usually don't like to delete threads, and may not at your request.
What's the problem exactly?

That's right. Because wanting your thread closed or deleted has nothing to do with breaking of the forum rules, which that button is only there for when to report posts, as the moderator clearly told you in the last thread.

Good, because that totally breaks the thread and makes it look like spammed nonsense, when you do that.

GOOD!

the warning is worth it if it shows that i'm still allowed to do SOMETHING to things I choose to post here.

Except you have to follow the rules, just like myself and everyone else :

Please note that Administrators/Moderators reserve the right to change/edit/delete/move/merge any content at any time if they feel it is inappropriate, abusive, or incorrectly categorized.

🖕 i don't care. this forum is missing a basic function, and denies people from even requesting that function be performed while punishing them for even attempting to work around this fundamental failure in forum design.

When you go about it the wrong way, of course there might be consequences to those actions.

And using the report button to request your post be deleted is going about it the wrong way.

You can't delete threads after they reach 7 posts. Not really sure why you think that would be a good idea.

The forums would be a total mess and no one could find useful and helpful topics later on, as people would go around just deleting everything.

It's a community. That's a word that is pretty strong here. It's not really "our" thread once we post it. It belongs to everyone.

believe what you want, mr. product. pretty clear steam owns you and you're ok with that.

After a thread gets 7 replies it's no longer your thread, it's the community's.

Actually I am not completely sure, if you become permanently unable to delete a thread past the 7 answers mark, or if the option becomes available again if it goes below that number. In the second case, deleting your answers or asking other answerers if they would mind to remove theirs could possibly allow you to delete it.

Can newspapers and magazines demand they are returned to be re-edited or completely deleted after they've made it into public domain? No. Threads may have been create by you or anyone else but the forums are public. As such you don't own them. Valve could just as easily change the rules so that users cannot delete any thread they create after a single post or even after they create it.

I hate it when users delete a thread I've posted in. Rather annoying seeing the message thread may have been moved or deleted in my notifications when I can't read the damn title to know exactly what thread it was.

You know the rules 8 or above and you can't delete. so if you may want to delete do so before you reach the limit.

nah, i'll pass on that belief. that's not how the internet or the world works at all.

Resorting to personal attacks just shows you are losing grip on the discussion, and can't provide any useful or valid arguments to the points being made, not that you could anyway, as the rules are the rules, and we can't delete threads after 7 posts for good reasons.

If you don't want people to see it, maybe consider that before you go to post it in the first place. Take care.

Unsubscribe and be done with it.

you aren't people. you are products, walking wallets, who have given up your right to control the content you choose to produce and are blind to this.

actually, at this point it's getting pretty clear that you don't even understand what it means to be able to retain control over the content you create and post on the internet and be able to do with it how you please including deleting it.

keep this up and you might actually make me start feeling sorry for you.
