Why am I now being asked to provide billing details like name when I am using wallet funds?
I have never had to enter any info before. There is no need for this, they already have my money!

They should only question those purchases where regional pricing is in effect.

Valve has to charge taxes when purchasing games. In order to know who needs to pay taxes and how much, they need to know where you live. This is a requirement by the states and federal government, not a choice by Steam/Valve.

Valve has to comply with the law, just as much as you do, with paying taxes.

They also need to know so they can direct you to the correct store.

Wow that is pretty retarded. I have never region jumped... steam can verify that already.

I have made a point to not putting billing info on any game site and it is the major reason I even use Steam wallet cards.

Well that is 27 bucks down the toilet... thanks steam for making my day!! <sarc>

If Steam didn't have to follow every region law, they wouldn't bother collecting anything, problem is Steam always being targeted.

In this case it's thanks to people that want to ruin it for everyone else.

They should have made a big announcement of it ... I never would have run out to get a 20 dollar card today to buy a game on sale.

I will never buy anything though steam again.

Your masters want our info... China wins again

Not sure why I would switch to North American region and pay tax if I wasn't living here. Am I not paying the top price already? What kind of joke is this?

I mean it's either be sued just because they don't take action again people trying to abuse the service, or take action and not get sued.

Of course the choice is irrelevant to you, as it's up to them to make this choice.

But I am paying the top price anyway... I can't imagine someplace paying more than the USA

So why am I being asked for my info? There is no legal reason to refuse me service as I cannot possibly be trying to fake the system out... and if I was to what end? For their benefit? Are they going to offer me the game cheaper?

This is moronic

Bull...

This is just them using that excuse to get our info to sell to other companies to make money...

Either way... bigger companies then them can't keep that info private and out of hackers hands... I don't need video games bad enough for someone to ruin my life because Steam can't get their stuff right...

hmm, my details are the same as they have been since 2013, never region hopped (never cared to even consider it). But i can see the purpose of the security precaution, all the same it is more annoyance than i'd like (as i like to keep things simple).

1. The publishers set prices not steam and indeed you can get many games cheaper there then other places because of regional pricing as you can see from many posts about this issue.

2. If it's something new it will apply to all region wallet checks to prevent the abuse and not just this one region.

Paying dollar is not the reason and you know that.

This is to nail region hoppers. Problem is people are region hopping, means either going cheapest region, then they may switch it back, or even make excuses to why they're doing it, devs and publishers are getting sick of it basically it seems so if Steam doesn't then this is a reason they take action against Steam for allowing it.

If you're that paranoid, then you shouldn't be owning a credit card, you be freaking of providing your SIN to anyone including your employer, to your bank, and etc...

I think credit card is more than enough for them.

The US is not always the highest charged region for games in many cases when you read about the regional prices.

I appreciate all the replies and don't want this to devolve into personal attacks.

I stand by my statement that buying in the top pricing region means that I CANNOT possibly be region jumping to take advantage of regional pricing.

Asking me to provide my personal information for funds they already have in their possession ... especially not being informed by some announcement about it and refusing to allow me to use those funds seems illegal or at least immoral.

I cannot possibly be trying to do anything fishy... this is totally outrageous!!

I don't use a credit card here... only Steam cards just for that reason,
